Finally, after 2 weeks since court hearing (rang court day after to find actual decision) we have received Judgement letter from the court.

To cut a long story short it basically says:

    Ryanair 28 days to pay
NO "extraordinary circumstances" existed in relation to the delay (cracked windscreen on a previous flight)

Next step is to wait for the 28 days to pass and see if they pay up or decide to appeal if not it will be contact with the Dublin Sheriff to recover debt.

    Well done JJ_K, :beer::j
    Nearly there...
    Good luck and keep going.
Successfully sued Ryanair in 2013/14...and have been 'helping' litigants since then.

    Current known score:-
Dr Watson 35 - 0 Ryanair / Ince and Co

Go to post 622 on the Ryanair thread to read how to sue them safely.
  • Just posting on here to say that the info I found on this site helped me successfully claim compensation from Ryanair and the cheque from them arrived last week.

In a nutshell my flight Edinburgh - Stansted was delayed just over 3 hours back in April. They immediately sent an email telling passengers no compensation was due because the delay was due to 'extraordinary circumstances'. I had asked around the airport whilst I was there killing time and I knew this was not the case.

So, following the guidelines on here I wrote to Ryannair in order to claim the compensation due to my wife & I (€250.00 each)

They predictably wrote back repeating their extraordinary circumstances line & rejected my claim.

At this point you could just go straight to the CAA but I wrote back again just for good measure citing a couple of court cases where airlines had been ordered to pay up the compensation due. (All info available on this site).

They responded with a rejection again.

So I lodged my complaint via the CAA website as directed once again by this marvellous site. I uploaded all the letters and replies to/from the airline plus confirmation emails from my original booking etc.

Within a few weeks the CAA had replied to me saying Ryanair had admitted the delay was NOT due to extraordinary circumstances and that they would be paying me within 4 weeks. If they did not I was to contact them with a copy of the CAA letter.

The cheque for €500.00 came in the post a couple of weeks later.

It probably took 3 - 4 months but if I did it again I'd be able to do it much quicker.

No lawyers, no courts, just a few letters and the good old CAA.

Job done. Good luck with your claims everyone.

well done! .. I would have gone that route, but because my delay was not in this country, I emailed the equivalent of CAA and they have ignored me. So, for me personally, I will still get more, once fees off, than the cost of the flight was, so not too bad.. Unless of course I don't win, but think I will, as solr I don't think would have taken it on, as NWNF. be so much easier if they just paid up, as not everyone claims, so they will still come out on top. I even had sent messages to two top guys on linkedin, nothing.
  • Crikey why am I shocked to still see many examples of airlines prevaricating and acting like a mule being pulled along with regards to settling claims.

I now see Ryanair are trotting out the old 2 year chestnut again.

Different 2 year Flock ..... Ryanair are now claiming the 2 year rule applies as they state (in their terms and conditions) claims must be established with them a maximum of two years after the delay. Good to see you around.

So I guess this test case is to determine if the statute of limitations trump their T&Cs?

  • Two quick questions:

1: is there an official compensation delay form for Ryanair on their site? The link given on the Moneysavingexpert page is only for a refund if you didn't travel (in this case the flight was used but delayed by almost 7 hours)

2: can I claim on behalf of a friend? He travelled from Italy (and is Italian) to the UK but he's asked me to pursue the claim for him since my English is rather better than his.

    Thanks

    Andrew
