yes you can claim. Whether compensation is due will depend on whether the delay was within flybe's control
Do we have to get an accurate distance from Dusseldorf to Manchester?
webflyer shows this as 655km
Also it asks for the number of days / hours before the flight was cancelled before flying. I am not sure when the flight was cancelled as no one told us but have found this information: so not sure what to put.
It will be when you were told it was cancelled. The main reason for the question will be around whether is was more than 14 days before (when compensation does not apply)0 -
Thank you so much for replying.
When we asked why the flight was cancelled, no one could tell us.
We landed at Dusseldorf at about 7am and asked 4 staff members about checking in for the Flybe flight which was showing on the board but with no departure gate...kept getting told it would be on soon! then at about 9.45 we started to become a little concerned and someone checked yet again and said the flight was cancelled. (Our taxi driver said it was showing on a system he looks at the night before).0 -
Oh dear, you are back again and Flybe, Flymaybe let you down. crazy routing as I told you before you went. There is nothing on Flight stats to show when the flight was cancelled or the reason why although it does appear to have one of the better, for Flybe at least, records of timekeeping. You will have to make a claim on the basis that the cancellation was a decision of the airline and see what they say. I flew into Manchester on Saturday 30th and there certainly weren't any major flight delays although last night leaving Manchester, the only long delay was to a Flybe flight to Aberdeen. The claim is for 250 Euros each, best of luck! By the way Flybe are not Finnish, their address is

I think we have learnt our lesson the hard way...I know I thought there might be a problem but never though of a flight cancellation!!
When I looked at their website it showed the flight from Manchester to Dusseldorf being cancelled so we had no chance, the decision must have been made ages before! I am not sure what to put in the part of the letter that says
``This flight was cancelled [insert the number of days or hours] before flying``
Bet they find some ‘extraordinary circumstances`as to why we can`t claim.
There is a page on their website to make a claim for compensation for cancelled flights was going to try that.0 -
The danger is they tell you the flight was cancelled more than 14 days before departure, due to lack of bookings usually, in which case there is no compensation payable. Without checking I seem to remember you booked on line with Expedia? If that is the case, I suspect they sent the email to them and they failed to tell you, I have found their customer service to be non existent when things go wrong0

Thanks for your reply. I`ll send the letter and wait and see what they say.
I do have an email from Flybe quoting my booking reference and telling me how to check in etc....and this was dated 12th so if the flight had been cancelled you would surely think they would have told me, so will use this if need be.0 -
Hi,
I sent a letter complaining about this delayed flight, and received the predictable "we're really sorry, but it was out of our control" reply along with a refusal to pay compensation.
I am going to proceed with the complaint, and read on one of the threads about a template letter warning them of my intention to sue, prior to taking the action.
Can someone point me in the right direction for this please?
Many thanks.0 -

Last link on the main sticky. It's all in there.
(I think the FAQs have now disappeared - at least from the link pointing to them?)0 -
Bumped for noobs and those too lazy to read the sticky at the top or scroll down half a page...If you're new. read The FAQ and Vauban's Guide
