What, if any alternative arrangements did BA make for your travel?

Hi,
I recently had a flight cancelled by BA from Newark to Heathrow.
I used the Resolver tool and receive the following reply:
"We take all reasonable measures to avoid cancelling a flight and we always consider if there are any operational options available before we make a decision. We’re very sorry the cancellation was necessary in this case.
Your claim’s been refused because of operational circumstances outside of our control, which prevented the aircraft operating as scheduled. I’m afraid this was out of our control and caused unforeseen disruption to our schedule.
This sounds like it may be part of the B789 RR Trent engine issue. BA have lost cases taken to CEDR over this.Posts are not advice and must not be relied upon.0 -

If it is the same RR engine issue, follow the advice I gave there and then PM me if BA refuse to resolve the problem over the phone.
I supplied the previous op with a copy of a CEDR investigation which found in the passengers favour. Basically the RR engine problems are in-defendable by BA, but they still try!!!

Many thanks for the prompt replies, not sure how to quote here, so I've put the answers below:
Bott Online says I can claim my compensation after I put in all of the flight details.
I received a SMS 48 hours before I was due to fly.
I was put on the next available flight, however I would have landed mid morning and missed my business meeting, so I had to change the flight and teleconference into the meeting.
Having checked Vaubans guide, I already stated a similar letter for my opening request which is to what I received the stock reply from.
Would it be worth trying to ask them what exactly the problem was, or let Bott Online resolve this for me?0 -
I would follow it up yourself in the first instance. If it is the engine point you can follow Tyzap's advice (post 2287)0

If you use Botts:
Less hassle for you if you dont have the time or inclination.
BUT they will take at least 35% of your compensation...If you're new. read The FAQ and Vauban's Guide

Have a read of CEDR's T+C's, it's a simple paper exercise, and if you want to go via that route I'll PM you with all the advice you need to be successful.
It's all very straightforwards and I'm 99% sure you will win your claim and keep all of your compensation. I have not seen a claimant lose a CEDR case over the RR engine problems, plus it's very satisfying for little effort.
The time scale for DIY should be similar to Botts.

Tyzap, I've had a look at the CEDR process and it seems relatively straight forward. Let's see what they come back with, but if it's something similar, I'll be sure to be in touch.0 -
Looking for some advice:
I flew to Chicago with BA during the polar vortex in January (great holiday timing!), my 15.45 flight was cancelled late the night before and I was rescheduled onto the earlier 12.10pm one, which then ended up being delayed by an hour. I explained to BA that DH and I would have to take the day as holiday as we both work early hours but this was the only alternative flight they offered.
I know the weather was really bad but I also noticed this flight had a lot of seats still available just before they cancelled it and have seen it mentioned as being cancelled often in the winter on various flyer boards.
So my question is, do we have a claim either for the cancellation or the expense of extra time off work? I suspect neither but thought it was worth asking as I have no experience of claiming thankfully! United Airlines flew the same route at 15.10 this day, if that makes a difference.

You cannot claim for time off work. No cancellation compensation either if the flight was cancelled due to weather.0
