Flight delay and cancellation compensation, BA ONLY

Hi guys - just looking for a little advice please.
I was booked on 0655 BHD - LHR, which was delayed, then eventually cancelled due to an aircraft fault and we were rebooked onto the 1335, which was delayed by almost an hour. Landed in LHR just after 3pm.
Is there any point in me claiming for compensation? I've looked at the BA information but can't really understand it re the reasons for cancellation/delay.
Thanks in advance!0 -
Lovetotravel - you have a claim for €250 based on a cancelled flight and the replacement getting you to your destination more than 2 hours later than the original time
Have a read of Vauban's guide and get a claim off to BA0 -
an update on my posts #1099 and #1101
Turns out the girl I spoke to was wrong and a couple of days later, with no prompt from me, I received an email from BA asking for bank details to pay my compensation.
My wife hadn't been added into the claim as she travels on her maiden name so we had to add her in and claim for out of pocket expenses too.
Yesterday £1100 was paid into our bank account. Credit where it's due.Everyone has a plan until they get punched in the face - Mike Tyson0 -
Package Holiday booked with BA to Rome. Evening before friend and I were due to fly home message arrived at Hotel saying flight BA2543 at 12.50pm cancelled and rescheduled to 18.50pm local time. We boarded plane on time but it was delayed nearly 2 hours arriving at Gatwick too late for us to get a train home. After texting BA we were told they would consider a taxi but not an overnight stay. It was nearly midnight when we arrived at airport taxis and it cost £145 to get home arriving at 2.30 am. BA Customer Relations are refusing to pay for the taxi and have offered us £50. After several E-mails BA are refusing to pay any more. All we had to eat from them was a sandwich while we were waiting to take-off and we had to buy meals for the extra time spent in Rome. Also we had purchased a return rail fare which we could not use. I am not bothered about compensation but just want the price of the taxi which I don't think is unreasonable but they say is excessive. I have written to the Executive Chairman of BA and am awaiting a reply. BA are anxious to get my bank details to give me the £50 but if I do this I am concerned that it may hinder my chance of getting the full amount if I take it further. I asked BA why the flight was cancelled and all they would say is they sometimes have to alter their schedules. For all I know we could have been bumped off the plane. Any help would be appreciated.0

depending on the reason for the delay you may be due €250 compensation per person

The contract with the airline ends at Gatwick and any reimbursement of consequential losses would be a goodwill gesture. £50 seems to be the standard max that BA use for taxis

under duty of care you would be due reimbursement if you send in the receipts for the meals
Also we had purchased a return rail fare which we could not use.
Consequential loss not covered by EU261

EU261 payment could go towards covering your losses so I would make the claim

I've had absolutely horrible experience with BA and from what I've seen, when it's time for them to make an extra effort to compensate you for your time and losses - it's either really hard to reach them or "there's nothing they can do".
It's not BA only, though, all airlines are like this!0 -
Unfortunately BA were the Travel Agent as they arranged the travel and the hotel. Thanks for the helpful reply.0

Sorry, I was reading Travel Insurance for Travel Agent. I will get on to them for the views. Thanks.0

Yes, I agree with that - anything to get out of paying. BA Customer Relations is pretty naff too.0

Thought I would share my story...
MSE email 2/3 weeks ago prompted me to check flightstats to confirm my delay flying in 2013, when flight was diverted to pick up passengers in Antigua flying back from cancun... I knew about other success stories an had always just thought it wasnt worth the hassle or wouldnt come to anything...
I used the template on the site and had the letter printed in less than 30 mins... Printed the details of my flight from flightstats.com... and printed boarding cards for me and my wife...
Sent it monday 29th june... email back on Sat 4th July to confirm BA let us down, etc and that we were due compensation... I did need to print another letter which my wife gave me permission to deal with it on my behalf, perhaps as i was not the lead passenger on the booking? But sent that on 6 July with my bank details... again a reply on saturday 11th July to confirm the payment was to be made!
15 July - £862 deposited by BA in my account, for 2 people, 4+ hours, 9000+ Km, delay in 2013.
RESULT!
Thanks so much MSE!
I did just hand the money straight back for a holiday in September flying BA!!0
