Are there any guidelines for how long the airline should take to respond to a claim? I submitted mine on 11 November and whilst I've had some correspondence from BA, I haven't had an answer yet.
My flight was actually with BMI Baby but the claim has to go to BA so I'm sure that's taking some time. Any thoughts on when I should say enough is enough?
RE the claim itself, here's the details - any thoughts on my chances of success?
Was due to fly EMA - Belfast City in April 2012. The incoming flight to EMA from Belfast was diverted to BHX (due to fog another passenger told me at the time but I'm not certain about that). It took well over 3 hours for the plane then to come from BHX. The possibility of having coaches take us to BHX was mentioned but in the end the plane came to EMA.
We departed after 10pm and were then rerouted to Belfast International as Belfast City had closed for the night. Then we had to get coaches to Belfast City arriving there just over 5 hours late (we were about 3 and a half hours late to Belfast International).
My contention is that my flight was delayed as there wasn't an aircraft or crew at EMA to take me to Belfast. The fact that the flight prior to mine was rerouted is no concern of mine as previous cases have argued. There were no other delays greater than 1 hour for arriving or departing aircrafts to/from EMA that evening and planes landed within minutes of when the Belfast - EMA flight was due to land - therefore weather may not even be a valid argument should that be put forward.
If the weather excuse is put forward and maintained as a defence by BA, I can also argue that organising coaches from EMA - BHX and departing from there would've taken less time than the 3 hours to fly the plane from BHX - EMA and we could have arrived in Belfast earlier (before Belfast City had closed).
Any thoughts on what response I should expect?0 -

This is entirely up to you - but I don't think anyone would feel you had behaved unreasonably after waiting for nearly three months for a response.thefreckle wrote: »If the weather excuse is put forward and maintained as a defence by BA, I can also argue that organising coaches from EMA - BHX and departing from there would've taken less time than the 3 hours to fly the plane from BHX - EMA and we could have arrived in Belfast earlier (before Belfast City had closed).

I've no idea - but it is a far from straightforward claim if the root cause of your delay was fog for the incoming flight. Whilst we know what the Regulations say, getting justice in the small claims court for a case of this nature may be challenging.0 -
This is a an interesting read from our very own Mark2spark, re weather and knock-on delays....

Thanks to you both.
From that post by Mark2spark, I think the angle I'll be attempting to push will be "meteorological conditions incompatible with the operation of the flight concerned".
My flight to Belfast was due to depart at 8.25pm. A flight to Dublin (among others around the same time) took off at 8.32pm, so weather seems to have been fine around my scheduled departure time. The meteorological conditions that resulted in my delayed flight effected the flight prior to mine.
I might have a bit of an argument coming trying to push that, but worth a go I reckon0 -
