Bit of a rant, sorry forum posters. Will update with what their excuse is.
Excellent rant and many a true point!!
Basically, TC provide a shocking service that no other so called 'airline' can even come close to being as poor as them, not even Ryanair (and I wouldnt fly with them on principal).
My case comes to court on the 21st of this month and I am determined to see it through all the way. My feeling is that once the fare had been paid we were just an annoying inconvenience to TC. My view is that they would choose delaying 200 passengers for 12 hours if it saved them a few lousy quid, and thhat they feel that their time is more valuable than mine. Think again TC.
My flight - the last ever with TC - was to Calgary to ski in the winter. Anyone who has ever been there will tell you that it is seriously cold in the middle of winter, yet TC allowed us 15kg of hold luggage including ski boots (mine weigh 7kg). So for two weeks in a Canadian winter I had 7 kg of clothes.
They really dont have a clue........0 -

Nope, they totally could care less once you've paid. Sadly true of many large companies.
The baggage thing is just blatant money grubbing. I got a RufusRoo as a gift, one of those lightweight vests that can carry up 10 kg. Sexy it is not but it gets the job done. Alternatively cargo pants plus a hunter's vest with a poaching pocket in back would work (fits a laptop). Nerdy? You bet. Flying budget airlines means drastic steps to have savings or you might as well spend a few extra quid on another airline so at least you get treated well for the same amount of spend.
Another cheeky option is wear all your extra clothes. In layers or even as cape, scarf, bib, skirt, hat, whatever. And then carry an extra bag in your carry on, and when on the plane take it all off adn put in the bag. Nuts? You bet. One woman on our flight did this!
My point is they put the carry on weight so riducously low so that you'll spring for a hold bag. There is no limit on weight in pockets or amount of clothes you wear. In fact there are bags which turn into jackets and dresses for anyone else who wants to rebel against hold bag charges.0 -
Could anyone please tell me how to find flight details of a Thomas Cook flight from Manchester to Funchal on 22nd May 2005 please? We were delayed some ten hours. Am going to have a go at claiming compensation, though of course outside the six year court cut-off, so it may prove difficult. Many thanks.0

you can make a claim to the airline if you wish - I would bet my house they will reject or ignore.... they know you can do nothing0

Congrats :T and welcome.
Someone that reads up on stuff before posting has become a rare breed0 -
Right, they have just rung me up after I left a message on there facebook a few days ago saying they haven't contacted me within the 14 days. They have quoted:
Having carried out a full investigation the specific circumstances surrounding the delay to your own flight were of a technical nature which was an Engine bleed. These were extraordinary, in that Thomas Cook took all reasonable precautions necessary to avoid the situation, and despite our proactive measures the problem could not have been prevented. All our aircraft are maintained to a very high standard, in line with CAA regulations, however, despite these steps, mechanical failures can arise without prior warning. These unpredictable events can be likened to those we encounter with our own cars, despite having full service histories, or MOT’s.
In line with Regulation 261/2004 a payment of compensation would not be considered applicable in this case.
I'm going to do some searching through the pages, but has people had a successful claim with such a problem?

Very impossible, in fact!
Well there are circumstances in which a claim brought later than six years is allowable - see the Limitation Act 1980 HERE
s. 32 Postponement of limitation period in case of fraud, concealment or mistake.
Under part 1. (b), if any fact relevant to your claim for delay has been deliberately concealed from you by the airline, the period of limitation shall not begin to run until you discovered the concealment or could with reasonable diligence have discovered it.
With all the deception and concealment that airlines such as Thomson engage in routinely, there may be an excellent case to extend the period of limitation beyond six years.0 -
Question: Is a engine/compressor failure "Extraordinary". This is commonly known as Engine Stall and happened many times with all types of aircraft and can be caused by all sorts of conditions. This is what i think happened to our aircraft and the same thing happened to another Airbus a330 at Manchester on 14/6/2013, youtube videos if you want to see this happen, vary scary if your onboard. This is what happened to us, I have put a claim in and gone to CAA, still waiting. I also am investigating an aircraft that i think could have had a history of issues and i want to know how i can trace what the aircraft registration was for our flight in 2011. I cannot find anything at all by google.
Notice TC have gone into profit again this year and the CAA guidence notes pratically rule out all claims.
Forgot to mention this led to a 24 hour delay not just for us going to Manchester but the london flight as well as we had their aircraft the following day, from Montego bay back to the UK, I suspect something going on here as info is very very difficult to get hold of.Check out Vaubans Flight Delay Guide, you will be glad you did....:):)
