Hi, quick update on my case, after the initial declined response from Monarch and a refusal to re-investigate I decided to file for a small claim which they have said they will defend all of the claim :)

Hi, just had a call from Monarch, they would like to settle @ £400 from an initial £660 + £60 fees, settle or not settle?

    Vauban votes ... Not settle.

    Two main arguments:

    A. They wouldn't offer if they thought they could win. I bet you'll get the full amount if you hold your nerve;

    B. This is your legal entitlement, and who are Monarch to suggest you deserve less?

A well known airline tried (and failed!) similar with me. As Vauban says, short of them saying "we know we are liable but don't want to pay", this 'offer' is the clearest indication that they know you are due the full amount. So, no, don't settle.

Hi All, have been reading through these threads and all seems very interesting especially as I am currently sat in Malaga airport due to a 7hr Monarch delay. Any advice at this early stage on what I should do or any information I should I should try to gather whilst still at the airport. Delay is stated as being as a result of a "technical issue with a wheel" and another wheel is needed to be flown in from the UK as a replacement. Thank you in advance for any guidance, will come back online in a a little while to see if there is anything you guys recommend. Andy.

Keep anything (paperwork, etc.) they give you, keep your ticket, keep a note of who said what and when, note actual time of arrival vs scheduled (although you are obviously well over the 3 hours).

It's unlikely that you will be substantially disavantaged if you don't do the above, having said that.

Look at the FAQs to make sure they are providing what (meagre) sustinence they are required to give you.

Make sure you keep your boarding passes / stubs.
Take pictures of the flight board information - try to get the time in the shot.
Take pictures of the cost of meals airside.
If possible, check to see if any other airlines are going to your same destination, and whether there are any spare seats available on that flight.

My vote, settle for the full amount only.
  • I was on a delayed Monarch flight ZB232 from Gatwick to Palma de Mallorca on the 5th April 2014.

The flight was delayed by 3 hours and 40 minutes so I posted off the claim forms and necessary information to them on Tuesday this week.

To my surprise I received an email from them today (less than 48 hours after posting the letter!) apologising for the inconvenience and offering me 50% of the compensation I requested (€250 per passenger for the flight of around 1300kms).

I have queried why they feel that they can reduce the compensation by 50% and received a load of nonsense back from them as to its how they interpret the regulations...

I have sent them a strong response asking for them to pay the full amount or I'll take legal action to recover the remainder. I'm expecting more twaddle from them but will post any updates as they come through.

Hopefully this is the right course of action and Monarch will pay the full amount promptly. Any advice on how to convince them of this would be most appreciated!
