  • Hello,

After reading on the Martin Lewis site about flight delay compensation, I remembered that we had a flight delay of over eight hours in 2008.

To cut a long story short, my wife happened to have the invoices, boarding tickets and anything else to do with the flights and accommodation. So out came all the stuff. We had an invoice for the holiday, boarding cards, the letter which Monarch gave us saying there would be a delay.

So she put a letter together exactly stating at what time all the things that happened on the day. Immediately we were sent claim forms and we filled them in and sent them the same day. A couple of weeks later we got the compensation for the flight plus some more.

It was a nice Christmas present, but it will probably go on some flights next year. So anyone else that was booked on that flight you can get compensation, so good luck. We received the cheques with no letter of explanation or apology, just go away.

One question I would like to ask, the people who are having to take it to court etc. and having long delays, do you have all the required documents i.e. boarding cards, invoice, airline letters which they ask for?

    Regards,
    Holiday Bob

Bob - can you give the details of your flight please?

Extraordinary, but positive, day in court today. Without getting into the details, bottom line is that the hearing was again adjourned (for the second time) for further final written submissions of evidence, with a view to a written judgement on 6 January. Nearly there ...

    Adjournment no.2?
    Blimey....
Not be long now though....await the full details for some good reading in the New Year.
Successfully sued Ryanair in 2013/14...and have been 'helping' litigants since then.

    Current known score:-
Dr Watson 35 - 0 Ryanair / Ince and Co

Go to post 622 on the Ryanair thread to read how to sue them safely.

    Hello
I am new to this and wondered if anyone can help me.

I was on flight ZB74 from LONDON, LUTON to ARRECIFE, LANZAROTE, on 7th December 2013 with Monarch airlines. I had over a 4 hour delay. I am wondering if I can claim compensation?

Although there were a lot of Air Traffic Control issues that day due to Swanick and their computers being stuck in night mode, there were other things that also happened too, that makes me think I have got a case.

Our flight was shown as boarding, unlike many others, so we went to the gates and queued. The plane was there and our luggage was boarded. I overheard a couple of Monarch staff say that they we had been given a time slow but didnt think they would be able to board everyone within the allocated time. They told us to go back to the departure lounge and come back in 1 hour.

After 35 minutes they announced we could collect a £5 refreshment voucher.

I noticed in the departure lounge there was no mention on the boards that plane was delayed, it still said boarding.

We came back after an hour and then boarded the plane. Once on, the pilot announced that we were still waiting for two passengers and the delay was that they hadn't arrived and the luggage was having to be taken off the plane. He then announced that we had now missed our timeslot and then we sat waiting on the plane for hours.

Is this extroadinary circumstances, is this Monarchs fault? I am new to this and would appreciate any help. Also is there anyone else who was on this flight.

cojoba - at least (unlike others!) you have posted on the correct thread. Many questions are answered on page one but you need to look into the ATC problems on the day in question and see what other flights from LTN were effected on 07/12/13 by possibly starting off with flight-stats however ATC problems are, generally, an extraordinary circumstance as were the missing two passengers.
May also be worth taking a look at ....

ps - I don't think your flight number quoted is correct.
