    Thanks Lynda,

Just wading through it, and can see a draft letter, just worked out the distance away, but trying on flight checker to work out exactly how long we were delayed for, I reckon it was over 12 hours but would like to me more certain. Any idea where I am going wrong?

    Hi Kelou,

I have had a check of your flight details on http://www.flightstats.co.uk. You are correct about the details you gave in your post. To use flightstats you have to register if you want to see historical flight details it is free to register.

    Thanks Centipede,

I think it was a fair bit later than that but that day was a blur! Suppose it would have taken a while to get out of the airport and get luggage but think we didnt leave the airport till 11 pm ish? Maybe that is right though.

Oh ok, I assumed looking from that info on page 1 it would be 250 euros as the distance by that flight checker seemes to be 1050 miles or 1690 kms, assume they go by km then?!

So I have had a form emailed back to me, shall I send a template letter with that, and the original boarding cards (or copies?)

Thanks for your advice, just searched their facebook page too to see what I could find, it seems that those coming from Faro were as badly delayed as we were, just a bit surprised not more people on here as so many told me to come here for the best advice and there seemed to be some very upset people!
You landed at 20.33 by the looks of it: http://www.flightradar24.com/data/flights/zb214 which I reckon to be 11 hrs 28 mins delayed.

Your flight was wet-leased (subcontracted) by Monarch to Euro Atlantic Airways aircraft Reg CS-TFM but your claim is against Monarch for 400 euros per passenger as the flight distance is 1688kms.

Write to Monarch using the template letter in the FAQs and give them 14 days to settle your claim or you will start a legal claim.

Then start your legal claim when they don't respond with an offer of compensation.

Fab, thanks so much, just printing it all out now, need to get my mum to sign her one then can get them posted off.

Thanks for answering questions you have likely answered a 100 times before, I just got totally confused with it all! Will keep you posted when I know more. Assume they will reject me at first judging by all the other posts, or maybe just ignore me who knows!

Whether you were delayed by 11 1/2 hours or 12 really makes no difference as 3 hours is the trigger point for compensation in any case.

    Kilometers it is!

I would send a template back with the form and copies of boarding cards. Never part with originals or retain copies of them if you do.

Sorry, one more thing likely semantics but want to get it right! Where it says

I am entitled to the sum of € [see table on the flight cancellations page] compensation and look forward to receiving the sterling equivalent within the next 14 days. [I attach a copy of the ticket.]

Would you write in the total sum (so there were 5 of us so 2000 euros) or 400 euro per person?

    Hi Kelou,

If you are sending one letter for all 5 passengers write the whole amount 2000 euros.

Ok, so received an e mail from monarch today.... Any advice welcome....

"Our records show that the aircraft scheduled to operate your flight was declared unserviceable and unsafe to operate your flight due to a technical fault on the number two engine inboard pylon. Consequently, the departure of your flight was unavoidably delayed as a result.

It was also unfortunate that despite Monarch’s best efforts, we were unable to transfer your flight to another Monarch aircraft from within our fleet, or indeed to transfer passengers to an aircraft chartered from a third party operator."

Do I still have a claim? I thought technical issues didn't count as EC?
What should be my next step now...court?
    Thanks in advance :-))
