OK, now I have started daily rounding up of the amounts in the other savings pots (all offset against the mortgage)....

Am I going a bit mad???????

    Hope not! :-)

Well today was a good day.

I went for a day out with a couple of friends, to a really nice little town, with lovely architecture and lots of nice boutiquey shops. I cannot claim not to have spent anything, but I kept it to £24 in the White Company, on night clothes for DS1 &2. £8 wasnt essential, but the £16 one was and I had to get something for DS2, if I was buying for DS1. A lovely day out and nice to see real shops (live in a very rural area!).

Even better though, DH has really come on board with the whole MSE thing, and MFW in particular. It really helps 'cos he is the only breadwinner and it is no fun nagging him not to spend, when he works so hard. It is so much more fun to do it as a joint project.

Got £50 in for a ticket I'd had to sell in December (too ill to go), so that went straight into the bank. Paid £300 OP, but that is just the sum of things I've already mentioned on here.

Now sitting happily in a freezing house, but with one cosy sitting room and kids tucked up in very warm beds. Have the woodburner going, no TV on and only need 2 lightbulbs on. Sounds grim but it's fab.

Take care if the weather gets bad folks.

  • How did the NSD go, catshark?

I'm subscribing - it's a long old slog to mortgage freedom and I'm joining you for the journey! I wish my OH was as on-side as yours, we both work but my overpayments are starting to reduce as I've been on the public sector pay freeze for two years whilst all the bills still go up. I'm finding your diary inspirational to remember all the little things that can help and by the end of the month add up to a much bigger overpayment!

Hi Trying to be Good, thank you!

I get a lot of inspiration from some of the DFW diaries. Some people are doing amazing work in paying off debt and that is what a mortgage is too. Does anyone from MFW post on any DFW diaries? I don't know whether to or not.

NSD went well and I sort of achieved it! I say sort of, because I had the boiler serviced today and there will be an invoice to follow.I didn't pay anything out today though, so I'm going to claim my NSD & run.

I got paid for some horse tack that I am selling, so another £30 OP made. It's not quite all profit as I need to pay postage, but the current account can take the hit on that. I'm in negotiations about selling a bridle, so if that goes through, there will be a bit more to come off.

Horses were a legacy of my previous life, before kids and big mortgages. It is such a relief to be able to move on and live according to our new expenditure and responsibilities.

We have also changed our car recently from a big thing that cost a fortune to run, to a tiny car that seems almost free in comparison.

Happiness does seem to depend (in part) on living within one's means and that stays true whatever the income and debt involved.

    Stay warm peeps.

Goodness, 2 NSDs in a row.... School was closed, so we had a snow day and didn't go anywhere.

Paid £200 OP but that was a couple of horse tack things that I sold.

Even better, there was some spare cash left in the current account before DH was paid today. Will prob just move it to savings, but how lovely to see the difference that this MSE is making.

A variable day for us, MFW wise....

Another snow day, but I spent a bit at m&s online, on essentials for the kids and a £5 pair of slippers for DH (how can he walk about in bare feet in this weather?!). Most of it was paid for with a gift card, but a very few pounds of mine went in too. So far, so good.

Then DH admitted that he'd bought a suit jacket yesterday, for a sum akin to 3 weeks of food shopping!!!!! Now it was absolutely needed and he did need one that looks good, but he forgot to put it on the CC and so lost both Mr T and £co points.

Was gutted and think it showed, 'cos poor DH then spent ages cleaning the oven, so I will probably forgive him. Eventually..... :-)
