Thank you Gallygirl! I'm going to do my best not to run out of steam...

I love the positive attitude bit, on your signature by the way. ;-)

Try it, it really works :rotfl:.
A positive attitude may not solve all your problems, but it will annoy enough people to make it worth the effort

Had a bit of a result today, although completely accidental.

DH and I took DS1&2 to the cinema. Last time we went, it was £30 inc popcorn, but it's a lovely family trip and worth it to us. When we got there, we discovered it was a specially cheap showing and we actually paid less than £9 inc the obligatory popcorn (complete ripoff, but I'm outvoted...). Very chuffed, enjoyed the film and made £20 OP with the saving.

I do regret the wasted money over the years though. DH and I both had very expensive hobbies (now stopped) and while not particularly extravagant, we did spend unthinkingly. I've just looked up our MF date and it could have been so different if we'd started all this earlier.

But what is done is done and I will endeavour to convert the regret into focus, on the task ahead! Onwards and downwards.....

sounds like a "good" trip to the cinema - success all round :j

I know what you mean about money wasted over the years, for a few years we both had well paid full time jobs but didn't clear the mortgage down. Not sure what all the extra money went on, although we did have some very nice holidays :D

Only realised how much (little?) we can manage on when we had to live off one salary about a year ago. Ok, no spare cash for treats (or holidays :() but we managed. Now I'm back to working p/t that covers the extras and treats

    Good luck on your journey

    Thank you PP!

It is amazing what one can do when one has to. I find the problem is keeping it going over time, but that might just be my weak character! :-)

I would love to work PT, but am so tied by school hols and being available if kids are I'll etc. I don't want to get into a position where I would be working, but having to pay the same or more on childcare. I used to have a pretty good job, but my brain is not what it was!

    Am a bit annoyed....

I was hoping for a NSD today. I find them difficult to do as I always seem to need something, even if just a garlic bulb or something equally cheap. However, today was a really good candidate.

But... I need to return an eBay purchase. I bought 3 phone chargers and 2 of them make a fizzing noise when in use, so I'm returning them. I raised a case (no response from seller) and I can return them, but I'm being charged for the return postage. It's only £2.20, but is so annoying given that I'm returning them 'cos they DON'T WORK properly. Have asked seller for refund of postage, but hopes not high.

Am worried that I'm getting a bit fanatical on this OP programme.... ;-)

Anyone else worry about that at times?

Paid a bit more into the mortgage account today. Only £30 in coin that I'd counted, but something.

Also did a shop at Herr A, who has the cheapest chopped toms and tinned mushrooms that I've seen, ideal for hiding in food for the kids!

Also bought a couple of storage boxes to try and tackle the Lego mountain that is threatening to take over the house....

By paying £10 one day, £30 the next etc you're overpaying by a lot more than most people can so its not 'only' that amount! I manage about £80 per month at the moment until I can snowball some of my larger low interest loans next year.

You're doing well anyway. Yes its massively addictive. Its also very difficult to keep momentum when your household for some reason are fighting against you paying anything we have into a mortgage, they'd rather stick it into further savings as they dont quite see the benefit of 'making a tiny dent' in the mortgage.

  • Hi and welcome to the boards.

Sometimes there are only small things you can do, but they make all the difference. I try to keep costs down by meal planning.

Good luck with your journey - you are doing great already.

Sounds like you're doing really well catshark

There's plenty of time to work p/t when the little ones are older. Make the most of the time you have with them. This MF journey is a marathon not a sprint, as many people have said, so you need to make sure you admire the view (and enjoy your family) along the way
