Comments
-
short answer - Yes!
my OHs friends dd is getting married.
there is a dress code - its already costing me to stay overnight although both of them live in a city not twenty mins away - they are getting wed in a 'posh' venue miles from anywhere!
apparently the dress code is different day to evening - so thats two outfits for me - OH can get away with discarding formal suit jacket!
I am bleeding fed up of this wedding - so many do's and don'ts I dont wanna go!
just glad I havent been invited to the 'hen' do - the deposit is a £100!!!!!!!!!!!! who does she think she is? Paris Hilton?
oh and the gift list is a laff - she is getting Argos vouchers and sod her preferred Debenhams list! nothing under £50!
she is really putting me off weddings!0 -
White tie for gents means a penguin suit as well. If it's DJ's it's black tie and ladies can wear any skirt length.
Colour code? Even Kate Middleton didn't demand that:rotfl:.................
....I'm smiling because I have no idea what's going on ...:)0 -
What are they going to do with guests who ignore their carefully selected dress code - hire bouncers to turn them away?
I'd be seriously tempted to turn up in the wrong colour anyway, but then I do hate to be told what to do.
Although if you wanted to be completely OTT you could do the whole long gloves and cigarette holder thing and work at completely upstaging the bride.:DAll shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.
Pedant alert - it's could have, not could of.0 -

lmao - yes, I am tempted to hire fancy dress! I could go as Morticia Addams!0 -
I wouldn't go to a wedding with demands like that, in fact I wouldn't ever imagine I would be friends with anyone who was like that in the first place!0

My rugby club ball every year is black tie - last year I wore a maxi dress I got from H&M for £23 but this year and the first year I went I got a dress in the sales both of which are 3-quarter length ones. However mate has decided she wants a long one and shes sent me loads on Ebay to have a look at - some of which were as little as £20 or so and you can always bung it back on again afterwards...*The RK and FF fan club* #Family*Don’t Be Bitter- Glitter!* #LotsOfLove ‘Darling you’re my blood, you have my heartbeat’ Dad 20.02.200

Thankfully I haven' t had the misfortune to be dictated to about what to wear to a wedding, if I had it would annoy me and I would probably find I was going to be busy that day.

A dress code is one thing but dictating colours as well seems a bit much IMHO. It essentially forces most guests to go out a buy something, unless they are lucky enough to own a dress in the chosen colours.0

I think the dress code and colour is completely over the top, I got married last year and couldn't have cared less what the guests wore!
We had one dat guest who turned up in jeans (smart black ones, with a shirt and tie) and I didn't even notice until someone mentioned it next day.
But if this is the couples request, then id look on eBay for a bargain.0 -
When did weddings change so much?
When we were married 20 years ago, we were grateful to people who turned up - something which I said in the groom's speech.
We did not make demands of people, we just wanted them to come along and share our day and have a good time with us.
Nowadays it seems that many brides have delusions of grandeur, they think that people have to come and worship them - a bit like Cleopatra or Salome subjugating their slaves.
I reckon that some people should take lessons in humility and consideration to others before they try to organise a wedding.0
