My main gripe is the government decision that families only have to work 24 hours to claim. these families often end up with the same disposable income than one earning the same per hour working full time. Surely the priority for these families should be to increase their hours in any way shape or form before being entitled to tax credits. If working full time they still aren't earning what is considered acceptable then fair enough. Working 24 hours is a joke. No kidding these families end up with more kids, they have the time and energy to conceive them and know that with the reward of another child will come extra money!

Look, you said you paid T-A-X, in the form of VAT, and that it was ridiculously high. Your words. I said then you must be buying ridiculously pricey items. No way was my post benefit bashing, I just stated the obvious.

You've now said that your family bought your phone and TV. Your words. So it's not you who has personally paid these ridiculously high amounts of VAT - your words sweetie, not mine.

And why would I bash those who receive benefits when I've explained I do too? And please could you use paragraphs, it would make your responses, much easier to read. Thank you. :)

    xx

It always amazes me how many people who say they are so hard up on benefits seem to have so many wealthy relatives who spend vast sums of money buying them expensive IT gifts.

It seems to be something of a recurring pattern on MSE.

Yeah at Phil Bentley's bonus. How many old people will die because they cannot afford to heat their homes, how many people won't eat and choose to heat their homes instead of both. Needless to say he will be a neoliberal rightwinger....
Good luck to him. Grammer school boy made good.
Nothing to stop any of the moaners here from doing the same except they are either too thick, too lazy or just haven't the imagination or go in them.

More like a public school boy, actually: independent school then (an unnamed) direct grant grammar. Whatever. If he were a secondary modern school boy made good, the payout would still be obscenely large.

    Idiot.

    Idiot.
Jealousy is not an attractive trait.
As far as I know BG is a private company in a competitve market and directors pay is an issue to be decided by the owners. Customers are free to take their business elsewhere.
  • Everyone of us needs to realise that this is a typical government ploy, assisted by the Media, to pit those in benefits against those in work - not forgetting those workers on low incomes who therefore receive some financial assistance - I am one of those - and public sector workers against private sector workers and vice versa and so on and so on ad nauseum. The government does this to deflect attention from badly thought out or unfair policies which usually hit the poor ie those on low incomes, whether working or not. It's a lovely little merri-go-round that usually benefits those who wield real power. whoever they may be. So stop thinking that you are all on different sides.

Jealousy? How do you get jealousy from my post?

And I am free to say the payoff's obscene.

and just think, if Thatcher hadn't sold off the utilities? All that money that would be keeping the country afloat.....................
Love many, trust few, learn to paddle your own canoe.

“Don’t have children if you can’t afford them” is the “Let them eat cake” of the 21st century. It doesn’t matter how children got here, they need and deserve to be fed.

How on earth will they die because they can't afford to heat their homes???????????????????????

the LEAST money one person of pension age gets a week is £140+ AND rent paid AND Council Tax paid.

If they CHOOSE not to put their heating on, it's their fault, not someone elses.

They were costing a fortune when nationalised. The waste was massive and I believe the prices (compared to wages) were higher than now.
