Robin Hood Bay (we tent) was great for Whitby, which was great for fish & chips, steep hills, second hand shops, bookshops & of course, the beach!

Can't recall the name of the place but around Bardon Mill there was a farm with a campsite tents on side, caravans & statics the other which was brilliant for Hadrian's Wall (but got uncomfortably rowdy at Bank Holidays.) Good times though! Lovely man with a van brought breakfast on a stottie within sniffing range - & saved the early morning bleary peer at the cooking tackle. Not that MS but glorious holiday!

We purchased a motorhome in November, so new to this. Some good suggestions on here and will do further research into some of the places mentioned.

Our 'try the motorhome out' destination was Searles at Hunstanton. A bit too commercialised really, but the beach is quite close, so great for 'blowing the cobwebs away' after a stressful week and just a short stroll along the prom into town. Would return for a short weekend break by the sea.

My only other contribution so far (although not in the UK) is Disneyland Paris. There is a motorhome area in the main car park and costs 20 euros per night. For us, it is free to stay as we purchased annual passes last year with the intention of returning 4+ times a year. Depends how much you like Mickey Mouse I guess :rotfl: and we obviously do!

Great thread folks, will keep checking back for more ideas! Many thanks.

I can't believe Shell Island (Snowdonia national park) hasn't been mentioned yet.

Stunning scenery, Snowdon behind you, the sea in front of you and is cut off from the mainland at high tide. I believe it's one of the largest parks in Europe (over 300 acres) and the facilities are good enough. No caravans/tourers (unless they're your main method of transport) are allowed, only tents.

I've spent at least 8 amazing weekend here with family & friends and plan to take our daughter here for our anniversary weekend in August (she'll be 3 months old )

Close to home I love The Dower House in Thetford Forest, it has a free to use pool, pub on site and trails into the forest leading from the campsite.
The Isle of Avalon at Glastonbury gave me one of the best nights sleep I ever had while camping as we pitched on some moss - like a memory foam mattress! Plus their (award winning) showers are awesome. It's only about 5 minutes to walk into town.
In Cornwall there's The Headland at Tintagel, such a pretty area, in Newquay I reckon the best (and closest to town/beaches) is Trenance.
For a good base for a Snowdon climb - Beddgelert camp site is gorgeous, a bit of a walk (20-30mins) into Beddgelert town, but so worth it - very pretty, you can get buses from there to several start/finish points to do the mountain or there are small car parks too.

I like to take my 6 year old camping to Wing Hall, Rutland. It's an amazing family owned home. Completely back to basics escape away. Some pitches are slightly sloped but the view is beautiful. Grass pitches wouldn't suit some campervans maybe? Plenty of space, not crammed together. Toilets are clean, plenty of kitchen sinks to choose from. On site restaurant if you don't want to cook (great food!). The very best thing about this site.....the amazing trees for little children to climb. It is a truly amazing place (in my opinion) and we keep going back for more!! ;-)

Rivendale in Derbyshire is lovely. Hot, clean showers, well maintained pitches. The scenery is beautiful, and loads of things to do all within a short drive.

    The Holiday Inn.

Do people actually really like camping or do they just say they do.I think its horrid, staying in a tent freeezing at night, being filthy, not being able to get a proper wash. Having to go to the loo in the middle of the night in a field and being woken by owls hooting. Thats if you can get to sleep in the first place because people tend to get roaring drunk and be carrying on.
Staying in a caravan or motorhome is much better, but tents especially little tents, sod that for a laugh.
