Hill of Oaks in Lake District (near Windermere)
Not many facilities- small shop and thats about it. No phone signal, no internet. They have static caravans on there, wooden lodges and there is also a bit for tourers- which has an excellent shower/toilet block and washing facilities.0 -
Greenface, broadway house is just up the road from me, its shut now for redevelopment.
We only got a motorhome half way through the summer last year, so have only been a few places. We did France loire valley for 2 weeks , lovely. Im really interested to discover new places for weekends in the Uk.
We have 3 kids

On edge of Dartmoor, only had 2 nights but pretty site with the river running along it, kids were in it building dams etc, good old fashioned holiday fun.
haven't stayed at river dart c/p , but have spent a day there several times , it's a fantastic place , loads to do on site , plus loads to do and see only a short drive away0 -
We are down in Devon, if your thinking camping wise in Dawlish area I would say Cofton Country Holidays are prob the best abit more "classy" than the others but it does get packed in the summer! And is prob more expensive than the others.
We liked going to:
Treveor Farm Campsite, Gorran, Cornwall it's your back to basic camping place just a plain simply farm campsite that is clean and has a small play park but the perks of this one is that it is really cheap which is ideal for quick and easy weekend away. It's more of a base than a place to stay all day but very close to the Harbour and loads of beaches very close. We dont go there anymore though as we have been to Cornwall so many times what with being in Devon so are looking to head up country now

The trouble is, one man's friendly paradise is another man's Butlins. I think you need to define quite closely what you enjoy, otherwise this post will be meaningless.
For example, owners of small tent, big tent, campervan, touring van and motorhome all have different ideas, as I have discovered to my cost on occasion. The level of sanitation facilities required is different in each case, for starters. I am working through the above list and have reached campervan (in my early 50's). It can be like a class system, you know "I look down on him because he only has a tent" etc.
My advice is to do your research on the internet (most sites have some sort of website), and use Google maps / satellite to drill down to the exact site. You can tell a lot from a good aerial view. That's how I find my sites in France, Wales & Scotland, and it has worked pretty well.
Don't be too persuaded by the generalized opinions expressed by others. Anyway, stumbling across your own little gems (mine is Isle of Arran, Kildonan - just by the hotel, summer only, no website) is half the fun!
Good luck
One of the main problems I have found in resent years, is more and more reviews are written by dog owners. I have no problem with dog owners or they dogs, but their reviews on the dog facilities, mean nothing to me. I couldn't care less how far away the dog walking field was.
I want to know if the showers are clean.0 -

We had picked cofton to try and get to this weekend but we had snow arrive, so maybe in 2 weeks time we will end up there. Thought it would be a nice winter weekend with 2 pubs close by a little harbour and the on site facilities.
Picking up 2 electric bikes this weekend so we can travel about a little further whilst leaving the motorhome parked up.0 -
We have 2.
Henrys on the Lizard in Cornwall. A bit out there / hippy. Has pigs chickens etc kept there, really mellow, allows brazier fires, has some electric hook ups. Stunning location. If you go in the spring you may see choughs as it's one of the few places where they nest.
Cloud Farm, Oare, North Devon. Middle of nowhere. Stream running through it. Lots of horses. Allows campfires. Can't recall re electric hook ups (we don't bother). Again stunning location.0 -

It's very easy to get to the pubs from the campsite there is a lane that runs through the campsite to get you there. Also if you have bikes if you head over the small bridge in the harbour towards Exeter and continue along there you will come to Powderham castle, theres a nice farm shop there. Or you could stop off at Starcross theres a small train station, or you can catch a boat from there which takes you over the water to Exmouth. Hope that helps!0 -
Anymore for this thread now the springis here?0

Great campsite on the Isle of Skye with spectacular views of the Cuillin Hills. Hotel for food and drink is just 200 yards away.
But.... beware of the midges at certain times of year.Never trust a financial institution.
