  • Good morning all:wave:, i`ve done my final shop for the month this morning and came under budget:D.

I went down the town instead of supermarket, as I needed to pay some bits off and glad I did. Amounst the other top ups, I managed to get a huge bunch of bananas for 50p, cauli for 40p and a huge bag of apples for £2. All from the greengrocers, which was in their reduced section, nothing wrong with the stuff, apart from bananas, which are alittle bruised, but will do banana muffins/loaf or bananas and custard:grin: and the cauli a little sad, but will be using that tonight anyway.

I`ll be doing something veggie for dinner tonight, no too sure what yet, But I didn`t buy any meat on purpose. We have meat most nights anyway, so 1 night off won`t matter.

I`ll stay here until the end of feb anyway, just incase i`ve forgotten something and have to dip back into my feb budget, but fingers crossed I won`t.

£4 spent this morning. Have made Leek & Potato soup as leeks needing using and also mushroom soup as they also wanted using. Going to have the Leek one today and freeze the other. Also had half a pack of smoked lardons so have crisped them up and will sprinkle them on the top of the soup. Have pulled out of the freezer a ham that was brought for Christmas which we never had so will use that tomorrow. Slowly getting an empty space or two in there.
Shopping next should be Thursday and then will declare. Still have £105 left though so more than enough to come in under budget even if I decide to buy a few extras for storing.
Can anyone tell me what red lentils taste of - I have always thought they taste like peas and seen as its the one food I cant abide have never had them but am thinking if I am wrong they could be added to the many soups I make. I can not stomach peas in any shape or form though so even a slight likeness to them would be a NO. _pale_
Menu planning to do now and then start a shopping list so thats me sorted for an hour at least.
    MARCH £62.38/250

    Hi Billie-Jo!

I definitely don't think that they taste of peas (not a big fan of them myself either). TBH it all depends on what they are used in - if they are in a soup or casserole I find that they just act as a thickener and absorb the flavours of what's being cooked. I've never had it as a side or main component of a meal though. If it doubt add a handful to a meal or soup, rather than making a red lentil soup :)

NSD for me today - just 2 days of February to go! :)

  • NSD today, and counting down only 3 more days until the end of the month. Whoo hoo!

Tea tonight is going to be enchiladas, and they're already in the oven waiting just to be heated up when we're ready. Yum!

    I've got everything crossed!

    Hi again everyone,

Okay, I'm all caught up with the Feb thread now! Went to MrS today on the way home from work. Spent £36.21 on some f&v, packed lunch bits and a couple of treats :naughty:

Our GC runs until the last day of the month. We will be under this month as spends from last week were from our holiday budget. Can you believe 4 baguettes and 4 500ml drinks at Geneva airport cost £37

Off to update sig and start reading March's thread.

  • Declaring an end to February today rather than Thursday/Friday as otherwise I will get confused haha so my total is £103.05 / £120

Going for £120 again in March so will hop over to that thread now and see you all there!
