I bought non-food (wine, water, shoes) things while at the supermarket, and paid a bit from both my food purse and my normal purse. I don't know what came from what purse any more, so not the most successful first month... But I'm still finding a separate purse very useful. Currently have £20 left to last until next week, but I'm fully stocked just now, so only need bread, ham and fruit. That will somehow mean I spend £12 at A1di, but that's not too bad!

I might actually have some money left over this month! That's never happened before, so I don't know what to do with it...
i put mine in a seperate purse and either save it ...free food at christmas or buy stuff on offer outof it that i would normally get:):)

Not another purse :rotfl: I've got 2 purses, 3 saving pots, and a sealed jar already - plus a Christmas saving scheme! I will either put left overs to one side for those months where you need everything expensive all at once, or I'll stick it in my sealed jar I think. It's just going to be such a novelty!

  • Another £2.40 spend in M&s today on a massive bunch of bananas and a bag of apples. Now only got £6.60 to last til next Monday night. No dinnery bits to buy just the usual bread and milk for the next 6 days. Got to be disciplined as im determined im not going to go over. Got plenty of pack lunch bits and 1 loaf in the freezer but milk is getting low so might nip in Iceland to get a 4 pinter on the way home from work.

Starting to meal plan now for next month, i've vowed to try at least 1 brand new recipe every week but hopefully more so i've been scouring Pinterest and i have found some really good ones that i think everyone will like. We're having soup, sandwich and pudding night tomorrow which is the kids favorite. £233.40/£240.00

  • Doing a little better this month. Did a big on-line shop at Sainsbobs at the beginning of the month and am trying to limit top ups. So far though I'm up to £364/400 and fridge is empty! However I have quite a lot of meat in the freezer from the big shop. I also have £15 love 2 sh0p vouchers from a focus group (can be used in Iceland so it will be time for my first ever visit there), £5 worth of nectar points and £3.50 Tesco vouchers and will see how far that little lot gets me!

No grocery spends today. 'Made' a loaf in the bread-maker. Haven't made/cooked/eaten a meal today as been unwell. DS has been out and DD has made herself some packet soup. There is plenty in for them and they are both old enough to cook themselves a meal anyway.

    4oz margarine - I used butter. 1oz desiccated coconut.
    4oz self raising flour.
    4oz caster sugar.
    2 eggs - I used medium.
1 small orange (or use lemon)

Cook in 7 1/2 inch greased lined sandwich tin - I used a 6 inch tin and cooked for longer time.
Cream marge/butter with sugar. Beat in eggs. Then beat in grated orange/lemon rind and juice. Fold in 1/2 oz coconut and flour. Put in tin and sprinkle remaining 1/2oz coconut over cake.
Bake - centre - oven - 190 - 30 minutes or until cooked. I cooked at 180 as my oven is hot with the new fan.

Don't know about using syrup or honey instead of sugar but lemon/orange interchangable.

Just wanted to thank you. I made this cake today (with orange). Its delicious.

Dont think its going to last long!

Not doing very well again this month! Thought it would be better but with family staying for 4 days this weekend, lots of topping up on good offers for household stuff and a wine delivery, I think the budget will be blown again!

I think this year is definitely going to be learning about our spending habits, I'm surprised already! :)

Small spends most days by either myself or partner or a veg or graze delivery (I count this on the day it arrives as it is like a shopping trip) so need to look at reigning this in soon!

Also to note I have received cashback for my in store shopping from topcashback site, put another 2 claims in today, so quick and easy so well worth it if you are buying the items on their list. Have to keep an eye on it as it changes regularly and there is even £2 cashback at the monent for spending £10 on fuel ending Friday! Annoyingly I filled up the day before this offer started!

    Hi all

Popped out yesterday to Mr S bought basics range baking stuff including flour, sugar, eggs, icing sugar, orange, lemon etc added up to just under £12 but will last ages. Did pick up a 2lb loaf tin, which I thought was HP but at till came up at £7!!! So I asked the nice lady if it would be possible for me to leave it, she agreed that £7 for a loaf tin was alot.
Note to self - STOP SPENDING MONEY !!
