have you ripped the dvd to an iso file on the hard disk with bdlot and ticked the remove copy protection boxes as seen in the picture above?

Well tried ripping another disc and the problem is still there.

'ang on... this 'pixellation' wouldn't be because the dimensions of the video are less than 720x576 pixels would they? If you're stretching the video to fill the display when you play it back it will inevitably look worse than it does on a television screen because by default your PC doesn't do any post-processing to sharpen the image.

I don't think thats the issue, it's about 50% of the screen and the sound is broken too.

Why not just download a torrent of whatever it is and have a ready to play file?

I'm not sure either. VLC has so many settings it's difficult to know what to do with them all.

This might be relevant though:

Under Windows, go to the System section of the control panel, and go to the Hardware manager (it is sometimes in a separate tab, and sometimes, you have to go to the Advanced tab. Then, righ-click on your DVD player, and check the DMA checkbox.

Upgrade to the latest driver for your video board.
