Spain is a civilised society, just not a benefit state like ours is. They would not have left your grandbabies homeless.

End of the day, you wanted your daughter home and I don't think many would say in your situation they'd want any differently.

But you did so without a second's thought on how you were going to pay for that, merely assumed that the tax payers would pick up the tab, just like they did when you returned.

I doubt if that family will ever be off benefits in the foreseeable future, even if they work they will likely need Tax Credits and Housing Benefit. In short you brought them over to claim benefits as their countries wasn't as generous.

We'd all the do the same if honest.

The real shame is that the UK allows this, whilst the Spanish Economy isn't great and it's made some huge mistakes they at least have the balls to stop giving money hand over fist.

They are far from an uncivilised society though.

yes i wanted my daughter home. And i dont care who it upsets on here i will do anything for my children beg steal or borrow. I wasnt brought up on benefits my parents never claimed a penny and neither have i until now. I am a single parent of 4 girls and i am doing my best to bring them up properly. If that means claiming benefits for a while i will i really dont care who i upset by doing that. And yes spain would have seen them on the streets we would have been if it wasnt for my sister.

How did they get on in the Spanish education system?

Were you and your husband working legally in Spain? If you had been then you would have been entiled to benefits and healthcare there. We met hundreds of ex-pats who were literally scraping a living, often by ripping off their fellow ex-pats. We were caught once, never again, always used Spanish tradesmen after that.

First of all, please learn how to type in coherent english so i don't have to spend ages trying to translate before you go insinuating i know nothing about it, it really makes you look incredibly unintelligent.

Secondly, i am not going to write you a a multiple post explaining how economics work, do some research like i've done over the past few years. I'm not an expert myself, i just like learning and understanding even if i have no link to it in my line of work, my girlfriend has also nearly finished a degree in business, marketing and economics too. Based on your sole assumption that all of our debt is caused by benefits and/or pensions, you would have to be incredibly naive to think that, to put it lightly. Most of the world is in crisis, are you telling me 95% of other countries issues are caused by the exact same problem we have?

"differance is that i know it and gonna take what i can b4 the ship sinks lol"

I assume you mean getting as many benefits out of the system? And this is what i pay my taxes for? Nice attitude. People with attitudes like yours are the very reason people in this thread are annoyed.

Nobody is doubting your wish to do whatever it takes for your kids. I'd do the same for mine and my grandchildren, and so would most people - it's called being a parent. :)

I must confess to being confused though, about your circumstances. I've gathered that after your husband left you, in Spain, 3 of your daughters came back with you to the UK, thanks to your sister, who drove to rescue you. Is that correct? And what year was that?

I'm then assuming that as you didn't have any means of supporting them, that you claimed benefits. Meanwhile, your eldest daughter, who is now 20, remained in Spain with her Spanish boyfriend and eventually had 2 children.

Because the boyfriend had only worked cash-in-hand jobs, and therefore hadn't paid taxes, when the work dried up they couldn't claim Spanish benefits, so came to the UK a couple of months ago, and have been living with you since then. Have I understood that correctly?

I certainly can understand you wanting the family with you, rather than on the streets in Spain, but when my son and his wife from the US came here, I had to produce a letter that I would support them until they had employment. Which is what I did. They both found work in 2 weeks. Not ideal jobs, but sufficient to pay for the basics, and I helped with the "frills".

Has your daughter's partner actually looked for work?

God, this poor lady comes on here asking advice for her daughter - who was born and raised in the UK, who returned to her mother and family, hoping to find work.

In the meantime - she needs something to live on. As anyone would - jobs rarely happens overnight, with having to apply, having an interview, and waiting to hear. And even if the daughter or her partner got a job tomorrow - wages could take a further month.

I love how everyone is saying just get a job like it's easy. Each space at our local supermarkets is getting hundreds of applicants, the last part time admin job I saw got 250 applications.

To the OP - I really hope things work out and there are charities or something that can help in the short term while everyone gets on their feet.

I agree, I find it disgusting how people are attacking someone asking for advice. I wish the mods would crack down on some of the vile posters on here who offer no help but just judge and attack.

My mum works with polish people at a boarding school and it is funny how they just come to this country find low paid jobs and seem to get housing very easy. and they brag about it by saying they have children to get benefits. They are the greedy ones even though they work in low paid jobs and seem miserable in the UK, well most of the,. yet, someone works all their lives and get nothing or have to really fight for justice.

I was born in Italy but always worked in the UK, paid taxes and never had benefits maybe once very many years ago for 2 months and then got a job in a restaurant.

If people have nothing nice to say, do not say anything.

Unfortunately MSE has a reputation for atrocious Benefits Boards where Benefit Bashers seem to think they have a right to intrude in an unhelpful judgemental manner into the justified needs :mad::mad::(people have to rightfully claim money.
£ So first suggestion for help filling in forms, Benefits and work is a good idea (bashers will need help too!!!) the £20 is to keep it independent of the government, corporations as welfare rights is at risk from corporate influence, state interference as they wish to discourage welfare claims in an age of recession due to bailing out tory pals the bankers.
second go to CAB. Pour it out etc get the help.
third come here and browse Urban 75 for grassroots here.
The street view if you wish.

Urban 75 has a very supportive community benefits wise, unlike here except when MSE is marvellous helpful insightful friendly etc.
    Hope you make progressxxx

I have a home in Spain so am familiar with the benefits situation and how it works. I am not blaming you, you don't need to apologise, as I said, I'd do the same and I'd call anyone who said they wouldn't a liar. I never blame those who do want they are permitted to do.

But that doesn't mean I agree with our benefit culture. We have one of the most generous systems in the EU for none contributors particularly with children and whilst we do, people will always prefer to come here. Even though we have no housing left, no jobs, are cutting disability benefits for those who are severely disabled and in all liklihood ending the NHS and Pensions for those who worked.

You know that benefits are easier here, hence why you wanted her home (amongst other reasons). If Spain paid better benefits for none contributors and we would have seen them homeless your actions would be different.

So in short whilst I agree with your personal actions as I'd do the same, I do see the wider picture of why things need to change, for the sake of my children whose future I fear for.
  • I have had it many times, now I fight back! noone is gonna intrude my streetwise claim advice!
Put bashers on ignore that way you limit but unfortunately don't eliminate their influence if you are to have long term future here.
Bashers can be nice, I took one basher off and person is very nice so it's not all darkness.

  • "Grrrr I was just reading the Daily Mail web-site and accidently clicked on the window for this thread which my wife was reading earlier.

After reading just the first 5 lines of Shazm's comments I roared in impotent rage.

I am sick to death of johnny foreigner coming to this country and stealing our money through our overly generous benefits system.

We proper Brits are being exploited by "Europeans" who see us as a soft touch and are all to ready to finish off what Hitler started and bring this proud non european country to its knees.

They come over here stealing our jobs and then don't have the decency to get a job and just steal my tax payers money!!!!!

Its bleeding heart liberals that are ruining this country blah blah blah benefit cheats bluster bluster bluster fume!!!!!!"

Sorry, do I sound like anyone who has already commented on this thread?

It is quite clear that there are not too many people who really understand the nature of the debt crisis in this country and just are so ready to believe what ever comes from this goverments mouth.

The amount of money paid in benefits (Never mind just to foreign residents) is so insignificant in the grand scheme of the countries debt as to be negligible.

The major reason we have so much debt is because the banking system was under regulated and allowed to basicly gamble on what it liked with whoevers money it wanted.

when this went south WE the tax payer bailed out the banks to the tune of several hundred billions (maybe more).

So to harrass a women who has come on here looking for advice and support because her circumstances do not fit the little Englander mentality of some of the posters is a disgrace and one, which previous generations might have considered bullying in a more gentler time.
