The asbestos in the garage will not be harmfull to you as long as the sheets aren't broken. The main danger is that one sheet crumbles when you move it or where screws ect are. Its important to have the right protective equiptment. The HSE are the best place to go for advice.

As far as disposing of it goes Bubbles is right you need to double bag it, incase the bag is punctured. The council should be able to supply blue asbestos bags which are marked with what is in them. These then need to be collected by the council or taken to a Civic Amentity site with the facility to take asbestos, the council will be able to tell you where it is.

Thanks. So you phoned the insurance company and said "I've got an asbestos garage and I think it's becoming a danger because it's starting to break up." And it worked and they paid for the work to be done?
    Oooh I must try that! :j :j

Well i rang my insurance company and they said i could claim if i had storm damage, but they couldnt tell me whether it would be repaired or taken down  Now i suppose i should have asked if they would replace the "damaged" area like for like because no sensible person would replace with asbestos again would they??

So ive left it in limbo at the moment as i dont want it replaced (the "damaged" area) i want it taken down

If its damage it ALL needs removed. If needed give it a helping hand with a hammer!

I think even if there is slight damage you have a case for it being removed, it is a health risk, point that out to the insurance company.
