I have a notebook and a diary, I love them.
In my notebook I write down my to do lists, shopping lists, party plans(for the kids), freezer/cupboard contents , what school uniform my girls have ( I buy in advance in the sales,:o) and any random plans and lists.
At the back I write down Christmas and birthdays, what I got people last year, my budget and what gifts I've purchased.
And the diary is for what I'm doing that day and what's for tea and my girls clubs and play dates, as we often have have days where I have to feed them in a hurry I have HM ready meals, so whatever is leftover from a previous weeks dinner they have it the next week IYSWIM, and it goes in the diary!, it all makes sense in my little brain ! :p
I also fill in the calendar on my phone and I love writing lists on old envelopes.
My dad has notebooks too perhaps the madness is genetic? :D

I love the idea of measuring your house ( sorry cant remember who posted it:o) our SM is next to a carpet shop but didn't have my room measurements to go in and get a quote.

Yup ... I really must do that too!

I've lost count of the number of times I've driven past a carpet store & gone "grrrrrr wish I had the xx measurements"

I'm into my 40th year of keeping a 'diary'. These days I buy an A4 page a day diary from poundland. I make notes about everything, including what presents I buy for people so that I don't buy the same thing next year! I mark down when I have to read and submit my electricity meter readings too! Hope that you enjoy it.

Thanks for all of the tips and info on this thread, I resolve to try to do better this year with my shiny new Household Diary:T
One thing I have done for years which might be of use to some of us less-organised mortals is to buy a cheap A5 size diary from the pound shop every year. I make myself copy all of the transactions from my bank statement into it each month. (In my personal shorthand, which makes it quicker and more confidential)
I also add all till receipts from my purse into an envelope which keeps my place. Once they're written in 'the book' I dispose of them unless they are receipts which have to be kept. In which case they get filed away into a permanent file.
I find this an invaluable help when trying to trace things like renewal dates, date of purchase, even holiday dates, as I list atm transactions as where I withdrew the cash! (Yes, it can even bring back happy memories of spending money;))
It's also a history of how much I used to receive in wages etc with dates of when I changed employment, mortgage payments, most of my life really...
Hope that's some help to someone.:o:)
BTW I also use an address book for all of my internet passwords, again in my own shorthand, but don't make it too difficult for a family member to follow if you ever needed them to access something for you.
Edited to add that I can then burn/ compost those statements/ bills that I have recorded in the diary, thus reducing the risk of being buried under an evergrowing paper montain!
The beautiful thing about learning is nobody can take it away from you.
Thanks to everyone who contributes to this wonderful forum. I'm very grateful for the guidance and friendliness that I always receive from you.
    :A:beer:

Spent most of last night editing one of the ones posted on the first page and think i have got it sorted now. Just need to print it all out and find a binder for it.
Used a practice one today and have added a few extras to it.
  • Sorry about the long post but so many good comments, I feel like I've come home - what a great thread!

Oh and my Organised Mum calendar arrived today. Now need to sit down and work out my system, I am too much of a perfectionist stationary freak, will spend more time fretting about using it all the right way that actually using it!

I love my Organised Mum calendar! Mine came on NYE perfect for my little NYE ritual of filling in my new calendar with birthdays etc. I am really OCD about writing things out correctly and have already had to stop myself from ripping out the pages and starting again - can't do it this time as it's a really nice notebook. I have an obsession with note books, and other stationary!
oh my days! update on the blog i posted yesterday with a new improved home management binder http://iheartorganizing.blogspot.co.uk/ I am truly in love and may be tempted to go this way with mine, although the puncher is £25, I guess its forever so cost might be justified eventually and i'm thinking gifts for Christmas too, oooh gotta do this.

    some organiser !!!!!!

like lushlifesaver, I use a plastic display wallet with printed sheets like these http://organizedhome.com/printable with inventories for freezer, pantry, insurance lists etc. I also have the window/curtain measurements & floor plans for each of the rooms in our house in it.
I keep a list of read books in my bag - but of course, can never find it when i go to the library or charity shop!!
I have a notebook where I write down inspiration for presents - especially handy if I see something when out. I write down on the back of this years calendar what I gave last year as presents so that I won't duplicate anything.
I turn the notebook upside down & at the back, I write a list of things I'd like to look out for through the year - I'm not desperate for them but would like to buy them.
  • It feels like we are all in organiser heaven! I'm in love with those printable planners but alas no printer at the moment.
I've picked up so many good ideas and today I did my store cupboard inventory and to see it all listed was a revelation, will do freezer tommorow.
I've been out buying supplies and got a page a day diary with separate pages for Sat/Sun, I know one of you was looking for that, there are 2 different ones in Mr T,. I also bought some nice folders and dividers ready for when I can borrow a printer:p I found some dividers with a-z sections which were new to me.
I've been raking in our filing cabinet (read mess cabinet) and this whole thread has prompted me to look at all our finances, including finding out about things I've wondered about for ages like what sort of mortgage we have:o
