In fact I take photos of all kinds of things (eg books in book shops to see if the library has them; things like electronics in shops to see if cheaper online..., small ads in the local shop so I have the phone number to ring them when I get home). It's really handy.
I also have one big home organiser file with a pocket on the front for all phone numbers; I also keep in it lists of local shop opening hours; meal plans/list of favourite meals; recipes; rotas that we're on; etc etc. The idea is from the Aby Garvey website www.simplify101.com and it really helps. When DH or DS say 'where's the number for xxx?' I can tell them exactly where it is which saves me time and means they do the phoning, not me!
I've started to get into the habit of using photos too, yesterday I was able to take pics of different types of wood flooring then compare colours etc when I got home, really handy when I remember to do this.0 -

Have decided am gonna get an A4 file for all bills and important docs as i can never find them when needed and an A5 file to pop some recipes in or a photo album with the little plastic slots? and some index cards then i will be well and truely organised YAY
cheers guys just need to get a printer and next year i can print of my own diary / organiser x
Glad your getting motivated. I'm liking the idea of keeping all the important docs togetehr in one folder, going to pinch that one:j0 -
No you're not wrong to get excited, Gill635! I think this is a great thread and I look forward to logging on to see what else has been mentioned.
I have a calendar in the kitchen on which I list things down. I was given a couple of calendars for Christmas but think I may need bigger spaces each day. Its funny how things crop up all on the same day and then I go for some time with nothing extra planned. I have a blackboard and chalk in the toilet with a weekly plan - I see that every day!
I also have a £shop A5 diary which I use for work with hours worked, changes at work and anything I need reminding about like babysitting arrangements. I also transfer those important dates from the calendar - double reminder!
Then...I have shopping lists, things-to-do lists and lots of sticky-it notes
on cupboard doors.
I like the previous posters' ideas of making a file of 'what to do if ...' things in it for family.
Slightly off topic but I read once, and have prepared, a rucksack for hospital which contains emergency things like nightwear, slippers, money (loose change), books, toothpaste and brush, hair brush, tissues etc so that if someone had to get your things quickly from your house they are all ready to pick up.
Sorry for ramblings - more like an essay!

In the last couple of days I've broken out and used up 5 items which have been lingering in my store cupboards for yonks, all thanks to doing the inventory.
It's even inspired me to make 3 folders for all my craft patterns, sewing, crochet and other, now they are all nice and tidy and together instead of piles of clippings. I'm going to tackle the piles of magazines next and cut out things I want and chuck the rest.:j0 -

Ooh looks fab! Have you made your own, or have you found templates from somewhere ? I'm just looking up a few now, but no idea where to start

Bit of a mixture really - I did start with doing a daily schedule but then decided there would be too many pages for my folderso have reworked things a bit.
Some great ones on here:
http://printables.yourway.net/home-management-notebook/ and here http://www.thehouseholdplanner.com/free-printables/
I've used the Track my spending, Birthday organiser, Pet info and Phone numbers (and maybe a couple of others) from here http://printables.yourway.net/browse-all-printables/
A good list on here http://organizedhome.com/household-notebook/printable-pages and I used the Spring/Summer & Autumn/Winter Checklists. There's quite a good weekly meal planner with shopping list on there too (but mine's ended up incorporated with my to do list)
And ... if you can face it http://pinterest.com/nekkoy/planning-and-printables/ - I must've got my Weekly planner which includes a meal planner from here but can't find it now(I have saved the doc, so I'm ok!) ETA found it! http://www.artsyfartsymama.com/2012/01/lets-get-organized-printable.html
A couple I've used an idea I've seen but have re-created myself eg the "favourite recipes" - I really wanted to do this on an E*xcel spreadsheet so I can re-organise in A-Z as I add things!
Hope that helps!
