Love this idea and am off upstairs to find the Page a day Diary i bought the other day for £1.00!
I have a small notebook I keep in my handbag but keep losing it, I so like the idea of filling the days happenings in the evenings!
Gonna so do this tonight while having a Large Bacardi and Coke! (Well it is the New year!0/4500 -
No don't throw those old ones out, I'd love to see what food cost years ago!
I must go and find a diary when the shops open. And I will deifnately be writing lists, especially of books I want to find, I'm always looking for ones to complete sets and have often bought the wrong ones so end up with copies.
Really like the envelope idea too, your giving me so much inspiration folks x0 -
30 years ago we lived in a rented house for a few years, and I found an old notebook of housekeeping expenses, it was fascinating, a page a week, milkman, butcher, baker, chemist etc, listed in pounds, shillings and pence. I decided to do the same sort of thing, then later started to use a diary.
Now I have 23 years of diaries, I use A5 a-week-to-view, have often thought of binning them, but never did and this year needed dates to claim pension/insurance policy. In the past I have needed dates of moving house, work (and moving countries!) Also found phone numbers of ex-work colleagues years after moving away.
I keep lists of menus that work well, and of what I have cooked for SiL and his family, so I dont repeat them too often. Also list knitting projects with type of wool, and of birthday presents to make sure I dont give same presents over again (sometimes cant remember what I have given !!)
Find a few PostIt pages stuck in front of diary useful, for emergency lists if I am out and about.
Got some good ideas from posts here - I like the enveloppe pasted in back of diary to keep vouchers etc.0 -
I keep a calendar in kitchen, a birthday book and a diary in bag which has important events copied from calendar for reference if out and about.
My MIL is an avid reader but was getting frustrated at sometimes picking up a book she had previously read when in charity shop or at car boot. She got a cheapy notebook and made alphabetical pages herself. She then wrote down the author's name on the relevant page for their surname and a list of their books she still needed to read. Now she has a handy reference when she is looking for books. Great little idea of hers.0 -

This is a good idea - someone gave me an a-z book in a gift set (think its meant to be for addresses) and now I have a use for it!
Isnt it funny that in these days of technology we actually like to write things down with paper and pen. I have been keeping a page a day diary for the last couple of years with financial info, important dates, meal plans and other bits and bobs written in there. I also have a small diary I carry around with me for appointments.
I have spreadsheets too but love to write things down in my notebook!0 -
Noooo, you've got to keep them
well you havn't of course but I would. I bet they make really interesting reading.
Don't worry, I will keep my financial notebooks. As Jackie says, it's fascinating to see what I used to spend my money on, and how cheap things were!Early retired - 18th December 2014

I do my finances online but I have a large calender which I love - I use that for appointments, birthdays, a to do list (not daily more make card, post birthday card), budget list (I write down any extra expenses I might forget such as bus fare to Taunton and birthday presents I need to buy), hours for work, holidays and veg box delivery dates.
I've just started a notebook, treated myself to a "gorjuss" notebook from boots in the sale with points on my card. So far I am using it to track my planned budget per week and my actual budget. I use a paper clip to keep receipts for the week, and any vouchers for online shopping (Tesco) the other vouchers live in my purse. I currently have a separate meal planner note book, might start putting planned meals in gorjuss book.Stay at home Mum to DS Oct 2011 and DD Dec 2013

I really like the idea of this as I am hoping to get more organised this year. It would be good to keep all my ideas etc in one place. I am not going near the shops so I will need to see if I can find a suitable and affordable diary onlineTaking responsibility one penny at a time!0

I have several
- I am a list person
... if I write it down, it gets done, otherwise it doesn't (memory like a sieve!;))
Currently have:- Tiny diary (week to view) used as my spending diary (everything gets noted in here)
- A6 day / page (but not separate for Sat & Sun unfortunately) for appointments - unfortunately not big enough to keep everything noted down in
- A6 spiral "to do" notebook - marked up with a page / day and a tick box ... note appts / reminders for things running out (eg house insurance), to take meter readings etc etc
Love the shopping lists idea - I do have lists for various shops in case I'm in the area (also very rural) but often don't have them with me ... as it's on the fridge doorGrocery Challenge £211/£455 (01/01-31/03)

I love my homemade Control Journal that I made from the Flylady website.
It includes all the things mentioned before here.
It also has a section for entering all those telephone numbers/addresses and account numbers etc for different companies that you need quickly to keep to hand. Personal numbers are on a separate page.
I also have the clothes/shoe sizes for all the family, my weight ledger to record my weight loss (or gain)
Flylady also helps you build your own daily job lists (Mon -Sun) that you can pop in a plastic sheet and then use a cheap eyeliner pencil to strike out as you do them each day which will wipe clean afterwards so the page is ready to go again the next week. (I love that!):D
My personal banking ledger is in a separate book that I keep upstairs as I like that to be private. My Control Journal stays downstairs as I use it all the time.
Its a ringbinder so I can add extra sections as things arise or remove as things change.
Oh and I also have my food inventories and meal plans stored there along with recipes that I've printed or clipped to try out.
Lastly, I print out calendar pages from Graphics Garden (under free printables) for each month and place those in plastic sheets in the front so that I have a yearly calendar for planning and storing info.
The calendar sheets are so lovely; they cheer me each time I look at them.MAY GROCERY CHALLENGE £0/ £250
