For the last couple of years i've kept a spreadsheet on the computer with all my spending, i make sure i try and get receipts for everything or at least make a note on a scrap of paper then save them in an old envelope at the side of the computer until i have a chance to enter things, then the receipts are binned. I've got scraps of paper pinned up all over the house otherwise i forget things. So the idea of a diary seems a good idea. And what better day to start but today.
Instead of a notebook though what about doing it the same as my spreadsheet, scraps of paper in an old envelope and then update onto an online diary.
I've just had a quick surf and found this, what do you think.

  • Only trouble is that's taking up nearly an A4 bit of paper ... so to do a whole year and carry it around isn't practical!

Wonder if I can get it onto A5 size ... or get 2 days on 1 page .... will play around with the scanner tomorrow!

ive had mine in a a4 binder but have decided to resize all printables to a5 and get them spiral bound at staples, its only about £6 and means ive got a totally custom planner. There are sites that do this too, erin condren and personalplanner.co.uk but they are around £20 and not exactlly how i want them. I would defo recommend setting yourself one up, its like a one stop shop of everything. Even my monthly diary pages that i do myself have the exact columns i want like childcare, holidays (school/work) bills and personal. Wow i can rant about rubbish lol

I have several different lists on the go.
    A spreadsheet with tabs for:

electricity gas water - read the meters every week. Ideal when looking for a new tariff.

work - details holidays and lieu days to take/taken overtime and on call hours. Helps when I double check the pay slip at the end of the month.

present box - list all birthdays and everything to be gifted, match up where I can, colour coded for to do/sorted/gone, then I know who I still have to look for.

monthly spend - list of all monthly dd etc and all bank accounts totals weekly. I began listing the bank accounts last year as I started 2 regular saving schemes and didn't know how much spare I had without leaving myself short. It helps me to see the total I have access to then I don't go into a flap and can put the maximum away.

targetted shops - lists of groceries I buy where they compare and how much, if there is a good offer in one supermarket that Asda will compare to I can buy in Asda and get it at the competitors price less 10%.

I have a diary which is used for money ins and outs, mainly store refunds which I list at the end of the month to check against cc statement.

All receipts are kept in an old envelope in the filing cabinet with the month written on then get taken upstairs to an old shoe box which gets cleared every couple of years usually when the internet is down ;)

On top of those I have a daily to do list which gets updated each night for the next day and on ongoing shopping list.

My nan keeps a diary with all her housework in so she knows how long it is since she did the windows/bedrooms then works through the last month as a job list. She also lists how much she pays for bills/handy men.

Off to have a look at the links to get more ideas :D
