Just noticed I forgot to freeze the gravy from yesterday's dinner, it's been out on the side all night so will have to throw now...estimate about 15p worth....up to 35p so far now:( will have to keep a proper eye on things so I don't go over that £5 this month...

I have done well this week not to throw anything away....I made a tomato sauce for pasta with a bag of dodgy looking tomatoes, garlic and onion – threw in some frozen vegan mince and a tin of sweetcorn. We all had this for dinner and then I ate the leftovers the next day while dh & dd had jacket spuds filled with bacon, onion & cheese (all of which were looking a bit worse for wear!!) Not sure what we are eating today.... feeling that it will be a decision made a lot later - ds is working later, dd at boyfriends and dh & puppy are still in bed!!:rotfl:Peace and tranquility...I love it!!:D

Lunch will be a saltbeef sandwich with salad and dinner is at my DDs tonight .Tomorrow I have to redo my freezer inventory as I know it needs altering.I am going to make the stuffed peppers for tomorrow instead of today as the beef needs using up today.I have some left over spring greens and brussels left which will be used up tomorrow as well I think.
Then I have to sort out the cheeses which seemed to have accumulated in my fridge
  • Hi can i join please, i have just caught up on the thread, and love this idea. I like to think i'm actually quite good at usingup food, especially since re-joining the GC thread at the start of Jan, i currently have carrot and lentil soup cooking away on the hob to use up the last onion and carrots about to turn, and have cooked the leftover bacon in the fridge and cur up and put in a pot to freeze, to us in something at some point, maybe for the kids with pasta tomorrrow, we'll see.

Can i please be put down for £5 up tp the end of Jan.

  • Yes please put me down for £5. We were away for Christmas so did a lot of our chucking last year so it feels like I've got a clean slate!

For the poster who wanted to know how to make breadcrumbs you can either whizz the bread up in a processor/food chopper, or you can grate it. The machine makes it very easy but it's still possible without (though a lot messier). I usually have a tub of crumbs in the freezer to sprinkle on cheese topped dishes (e.g. cauli cheese, veg gratins etc) to make it crunchy.

I'm also planning to use up a couple of apples that are getting wrinkly with this recipe for Dutch apple cake: http://uktv.co.uk/food/recipe/aid/607041 I do know I'm probably going to chuck some eggs though: they're a few days beyond the date and as I'm pregnant I'm not taking risks as I usually would...

I love sprouts with ginger and orange.....cut sprouts in half, pop in a pan with a small amount of olive oil and sweat off for approx 5 mins....grate in some ginger and add orange juice then cook for another 3-5 mins....nomnom!! :D

I have updated the challenge list and your number is 21

I've made a curry and added to it the last of the sprouts and baby carrots (just threw away a couple of tiny ones passed their best). That will make at least 3 meals and I tossed in the last of the rice from yesterday's meal.

Despite having lots of bread in the freezer on my last post, I've made things from most of it (after turning it into breadcrumbs) so I am now making bread with some flour past its best before date and freezing that too.
