Food thrown away April
Milk - there is always milk on this list, it was short dated
Pea shoots - again short dated, were to be used by the following day and I didn't notice, previous ones had a use by date of a week
A few watercress leaves.
That's all for the month. All bread is now in the freezer and I'm taking it out one slice at a time.

Thanks icontinuetodream!
Well I had to throw some salad out this week, we had put it out in a buffet when we had family down at the weekend, we tried to use it up but couldn't manage it before it went brown and manky. Probably lost about 30p's worth. I have 4 chilli's in my fridge that need using up, does anyone have any ideas on what I could do with them that will be able to keep and not be used straight away?0 -
Princesskitty i always put my chillis in the freezer.
You can freeze them whole and use them straight from frozen.

Before, I tried drying them (not very satisfactory for some reason) and making chilli jam, which was ok, but I still have loads in the larder
I am still using the frozen ones, and it really is very easy, just freeze as they are, no blanching or anything, and they cut up fine from frozen. You can remove the seeds or include them, both quite easy.0 -
confessional....I have had an up and down month for food wastage....a variety of different circumstances have really taken my eye off the ball....
So, I currently have nothing in the fridge at all that I can't or won't use this week so, I have decided that as I have a clean start and will be moving into different shopping practices now that my dd has moved into her first home, I am going to try for NO food waste at all until the end of the year!!!
I know it will be really hard, but I really believe that it can be done....dh is completely unfussy about what concoctions I put in front of him, so I pretty much have a free reign now
I only have a white cabbage, onion, a beetroot, some potatoes, garlic, root ginger, a bag of mixed baby peppers, lemons and two avocados left now as far as fresh food is concerned....I will make some hommous using lots of the garlic and lemons which I will have with avocado on jacket potatoes for lunch, I will make a ginger and lemon risotto and a beetroot and potato salad tonight; tomorrow I will pan fry the mini-peppers with garlic, vegan chorizio and tomatoes and top with a polenta crust and Wednesday I will defrost some ready made tvp mince mix to make cabbage parcels with a tomato and herb sauce.
I am away from then until the weekend so dh will play freezer roulette for the remaining two days of the week and I will go shopping on Saturday for next weeks fresh stuff
Lets see how I get onWish me luck!!

Couponchaos - I will join you for August if I may.
I manage to recycle most of my general waste but still find I throw far too much food away.
I tend to buy too much fresh food at once and it gets lost at the back of my small, inconvenient fridge until it becomes a smelly mush.
I'm going to try to shop daily for fresh food (a quick walk to the local supermarket in the evening), and use meal plans for each week. I hope this will help me to focus.Aiming to get healthy in 2014.0 -
May I join as well please. Living on my own I never seem to be able to get the shopping right. Hopefully this challenge will help me get more organised.Use it up, Wear it out, Make it do, Do without.0
