Me again! I had to throw out two mince pies left over from Christmas last night, that i just can't face eating for the sake of it. Also, not a good idea being as I'm doing SW. DD doesn't like them either, so a throw out of about (30p) app.

Hi Doris65 nice to see another member as it seems quite quiet on here at the moment, unless nobody is throwing anything out :D

Had to throw a pear out this morning (23p). Cut the bad bits off to eat but it tasted mushy. I should have really grated it into some buns for DD for packed lunch but would have meant having to add other ingredients and she's fussy , so for one pear wasn't worth it.

Edited as now have also had to throw out 2/3 of a tin of sweetcorn which has gone slimey (20p),a 1/3 of a bag of salad (16.5p) and 1/5 of a fresh pineapple (pre-chopped, and put it in a bowl to eat for pud, but this amount was hard). Done well considering had it much longer than should have.

Will update sig now, as i'm on my laptop.

Edit : Today threw out another manky strawberry, but used the rest of punnet (5p). Used up manky asparagus by making soup for dinner, which was delicious. Pack of crisps wasted from DDs packed lunch (9p)
    Sig updated.

  • Had to throw away 3 pittas as I didn't get around to putting them in freezer and they went mouldy. 30p wasted.

But that's it so far this month, definitely improved on not wasting veggies.

:jHi Everyone - does anyone have any ideas for beetroot? I have some left from my Veg boxand I have to confess to being a bit clueless as to what to do with it. I have put it raw in salads and also roasted it with the Sunday roast but are there any other ideas?

Just come across this in the archives :

Had to throw away a pear today 23p. Sig updated.

Is there any way these can be frozen or would it turn to mush?
I need to start putting them in little bags and adding to cakes for DD.

This thread is very quiet << anybody out there? >>

12/3 - Two yogs (50p) - one which i didn't notice had split at bottom :(, and one seriously out of date ( i'd eaten three others of these, so couldn't face this last one so OOD). Sig updated

17/3 - Half a HM cake thrown as it just has a nasty aftertaste of sweetener ( I'm following SW, and had made this for a treat which i would have accounted for accordingly) ... so approximately 30p by my calculations. On the plus side, i have no more sweetener in the house apart from little tablets for cuppas which i can stand, so it will never darken my door again. Going to try agave nectar instead. Will update sig.

I failed this month :(. Mainly because i froze ready prepared veg and it went mushy when i defrosted it. Afterwards i thought i could have left it frozen and made a soup with it. Ive also thrown away a quarter of swede which is about 13p and 2 carrots which were about 3p each, as im going on my holls tomorrow. So all in all ive wasted £1.32. Next months challenge im going to try and buy slightly less fruit and veg, maybe enough for a week at a time instead of a month as theres only me.
