Foods thrown February:
Half a pot of greek yoghourt - out of date, must only buy when I want to eat on that day
Milk out of date - was annoyed that the shop only had 2 pint cartons and not one pint ones, and it had a very short date on which I did not notice
Home made bread, just a small bit - was 3 weeks old and I couldn't face eating it
Crust of white loaf - starting to turn
Marmite - end of jar which didn't look right
Stir fry/noodles - half a packet of each. Will not buy these again - I do like them but not two days in a row and doesn't seem to keep longer
Not happy with this list and I hope to do better in March

Just found this thread, what a great idea. I need help in using up veg - I end up throwing it away when it goes mouldy as I'm cooking for one but still trying to get 'value' by buying big packs. It's not so much the money, but the ethics and sheer laziness/disorganisation I hate, I feel awful throwing what should have been good food away.
So today's help please - most of a cabbage to be used up and I can't face eating too much more right now, and it's making me a tad antisocial, if you know what I mean! I was thinking of making up a rice/veggie/tuna mix, then using blanched cabbage leaves to make stuffed parcels (like stuffed vine leaves), to take in for work lunch once a week or so for a change. Would these freeze ok, do you think? Then I could finish up the small inner leaves tonight in a salad, and cabbage begone![STRIKE][/STRIKE]I am a long term poster using an alter ego for debts and anything where I might mention relationship problems or ex. Shred it and use in a stir fry, or make cabbage soup and blend and freeze? Or if you blanch them you could do a bit of everything!GC Jan £101.91/£150 Feb £70.96/150 Mar £100.43/150 Apr £108.45 app/150 May £149.70/150 Jun £155.15/150 July ££110.46/£150 (includes food, toiletries and cleaning from 13th to 12th of each month. :jHi Everyone - does anyone have any ideas for beetroot? I have some left from my Veg boxand I have to confess to being a bit clueless as to what to do with it. I have put it raw in salads and also roasted it with the Sunday roast but are there any other ideas?0

beetroot soup is nice - google up some borscht recipes and see what you think.[STRIKE][/STRIKE]I am a long term poster using an alter ego for debts and anything where I might mention relationship problems or ex. I've been meaning to give this one a go - just need to find myself with some fresh beetroot - I tend to have everything else!

Personally I dont like beetroot soup but love beetroot itself and usually just roast it or eat it with cheese sandwiches. A nice salad with roasted beetroot and feta cheese isgood. However if you look on the Abel and Cole website there are tons of beetroot ideas such as
Chocolate cake, Humous, relish, chutney and hash to name a few.

While I am here I will say that for March I hope to throw no more than £1.50 away. Zero waste so far.MARCH £62.38/2500 -

Pretty sure you can make cake with beetroot in, if you Google it.
I know i have made cake with courgette and sweet potato seperately, so it's pretty doable.GC Jan £101.91/£150 Feb £70.96/150 Mar £100.43/150 Apr £108.45 app/150 May £149.70/150 Jun £155.15/150 July ££110.46/£150 (includes food, toiletries and cleaning from 13th to 12th of each month.
