  • Well done Karb! I was doing quite well this month, however this weekend gone we had our hen do and stag do's and everything was a bit manic leading up to it so we ended up with wastage over the weekend! I can't remember all of the items because my OH actually cleared the fridge out without me but I think it will be around £2.50. Annoying! I will pledge to try harder in March!

HI all, i've been trying to do the GC this month and finding myself trying not to throw stuff out (i hate waste anyway) but would like to see if i can do better by joining you guys :) I am currently sitting wondering what i can do with 4 apples that are past their best and won't be eaten as they are - maybe i can bake them in some bread or something similar - any ideas?

Grate them and put in apple and cinnamon muffins if you have the other ingredients in.

Have thrown out last three strawbs from same punnet again today. Just could not face eating them even buried underneath my cereal and banana. Hoping the smaller punnet i have bought will fair better. Will go and update sig.

Puree them and freeze until you make cake or pies.

Last waste of the month was a few tomatoes that although they looked fine they actually tasted horrendous so £0.30 which takes total up to £0.81 a lot better than before when I wasnt paying attention to waste.

Cooked a ham the other day that was in the freezer from christmas and had four meals from it so far and two more put back in the freezer plus enough for sandwiches tomorrow for two people and have saved the bone for a stock. The small amount of fat that was cut off has gone to feed the birds so wont include that.

Mix in either some garlic or chopped spring onion or grated cheese and use on a jkt potato or with some cooked wedges as a dip.
