Went through my 5kg sack of lidl onions today and found a couple that were completely off and had to throw them out. They were only 1.39 for the bag tho so reckon about 5p an onion max. Have made a batch of caremelized onion out of the rest some for the fridge and a lage containers worth for the freezer so at least no more will go to waste. Will update signature.:j Good things come to those who coupon. :j

Just found this thread. I try to avoid chucking out food as much as possible. I've recently invested in several air tight containers to keep my fruit and veg in. It seems to be keeping better. I just prepare it once a week and then put it into the different containers. I have had to chuck any away. I often make too much on a meal if I have pasta or rice etc so I then take the same thing to lunch with me.Paid off the last of my unsecured debts in 2016. Then saved up and bought a property. Current aim is to pay off my mortgage as early as possible. Currently over paying every month. Mortgage due to be paid off in 2036 hoping to get it paid off much earlier. Set up my own bespoke spreadsheet to manage my money.0

I have just noticed princesskitty29 that you have two numbers!!You have both 31 & 41....sorry about that...let me know which one you would like to keep and I will update the list!;)
Okay, confession time   I have been away frequently over the last several weeks and the amount of food I have had to throw away is beyond a joke  so much for not throwing anything out for the rest of the year!!!:o_pale_
However, getting back on the wagon is sooooo much better than sticking my head in the sand, so I have cleared my fridge of all food which had grown legs and am starting again from today:j NO MORE FOOD WASTE for the remainder of August and I will stick like glue to a £5 per month target from September onwards.....

Busy morning in the kitchen!!
The two dodgy looking sweet potatoes, butternut squash and red onion that I found in my fridge yesterday have been roasted along with some garlic and ginger and are currently bubbling away in some veggie stock to have as soup for a late lunch - will have plenty left to freeze for next week too...... as I intend now to shop on a Saturday, my plan is that I will use up anything that is left in the fridge Saturday morning and have it as our 'soup' day from now on!!
We are having a BBQ tomorrow with the babies (no partners this time though, so it will be nice to spend some quality time with them) and I have put some of the meat in to marinades - we splashed out on some lovely lamb leg steaks which I have put in with olive oil, garlic and some mint and rosemary from the garden, and I have put the chicken breasts into a tandoori mix....nom nom!!:D
DH is a cheese, ham, olives, breads and pickles fiend so we went a bit loopy yesterday when we took DD to the shops.....bought enough to sink a battleship!! Fortunately, this was paid for by the 'leftover' money we had from the weeks grocery budget so no real impact as far as the cash-flow is concernedWe will probably finish most of it off today as we will have it for dinner.....got to admit, the white stilton with mango and ginger is to die for so may well have to get some more of that in the near future!!
I have sorted out the menus for the next few weeks from what we currently have in so I am hoping that grocery spends will be able to be kept to a minimum....will keep you posted!!;)Mortgage 12.12.12 £55842 12.12.13 £42716 14.12.14 £28837 13.12.15 £25913

I have a can of chick peas that DH bought on a whim ages ago, can anyone suggest what I can use them in please? I am not a huge curry fan. I seem to manage to use most of my food...apart from the things DH buys because we might use them when he goes out shopping!
Stick them in the oven on baking parchment on for about half an hour on low, then let them cool. Mix them in a bowl with melted chocolate and then freeze them.
Theyre like low fat chocolate drops and they're good in ice cream or yoghurt too.
I learn this from my mum, i think its an old SW recipe
Hope it helps.
Thanks
