Ah well, the wood burning stove is going strong so I can sit by that with a cuppa when I get back. Bliss!

You can burn some of your old personal data while you're at it.

blossomhill, great posts, very encouraging tips - are you sure you are not Stelios in disguise.

I watched one of The Life Laundry the other night, haven't seen that series before, I very much enjoyed it.

I have been working well this morning. Not sure this afternoon whether to carry on with what I was doing (non hoardering) or take a break and do some cupboard sorting, which is work related anyway.

Only problem I'm finding with decluttering is the unholy chaos it causes to actually hoick things out from where they've been sweetly slumbering and then rehome!

It has to get worse before it gets better, right? :o

I think so. Our house is much messier really I think. It's especially galling to see clear areas used as ninth squares, but......no other option. If the choice is to keep it and have the clutter build up effectively making home smaller it's worth short term mess I think.
  • Belated birthday wishes JoJo - you have really helped so many by just starting this thread. Don't let the sour old trout wreck it for you.

And also lots of hugs. We value you a lot!

Byatt - you have a lucky cat, because he has you.

Stalled here. I bought 200 dishwasher tablets at Makro (though at least I stayed away from some of the other bulk buys). The deal was okay, I have only had a dishwasher a few months, but 10p per tablet is as good a deal as I have seen on the supermarket websites. It probably is an okay deal. I just felt so comforted by having that stock. That bothers me, I was moving away from that. Also I think I may have to go back on antidepressants, which will knock writing on the head, and it makes me ANGRY. I am holding on to that with both hands and my teeth to try and keep me going. And I loathe the snow. I am sure I am not the only one on here nervous about falling.

So that's my pity party. I have promised myself a wallow until I pick little bear up from school, then I need to start moving again. hugs to all, you are a very inspiring bunch.

    Good afternoon everyone,
Happy belated birthday to Jojo, sorry it is late. And sorry to hear about the card, but good for you for chucking it out straight away :rotfl:
Yesterday I managed to sort out my remaining two boxes of paperwork that I had promised myself I would do after Christmas, and that's it...all the boxes have been sorted!! I can't quite believe it. Recycling bin is full of shredded paper :rotfl:
I do need to sift through what i have kept again just to whittle it down a bit more but generally really happy with myself, and it means that my tax return can now get done as I have sorted all my receipts :D
Another few bits to go on freecycle out of a quick rummage in my small draws in the bedroom, and I have put 14 things on ebay, many already have bids so I'm very pleased with that. I also took 1 bag of bits to the charity shop yesterday so happy days all round. It doesn't seem to have made a dent but mentally it has so I'm happy with that.
I hope everyone is enjoying the snow and working through things well.
I have lots more things to put on ebay but they will have to wait until the weekend again now.

Oh yes you should have seen my living room floor last night!!!:eek::eek:
I nearly left the paperwork as it was but NO, trying to change my habits so I forced myself to finish the job and at least what I am keeping is either now filed or waiting to be sifted through and in neat piles. Keep slogging, it will pay off in the end. :j

Sorry that you're feeling so very down right now.

You're not alone, I'm dreading the snow. Hate, hate, hate it.

Yes, thinking about it, the hallway has bags destined for the charity shop, which I dislike intensely, (the bags, that is, not the charity shop!) but it's a short term pain for long term gain.

Oh yes, our place got messier too, but that worked better overall because then we started making quicker, more drastic decisions. We've moved on more than we would have otherwise, but we are enjoying kept/new stuff a lot more. and it is so much quicker to straighten the house up for visitors etc. 9th square is out of sight now so that really helps will short notice visitors.

Still don't regret anything I have chucked out/destroyed.

Oooh I don't know, can you send him round so I can do some comparisons please?

Psst, I shall say this only once; Operation Candlemass nearing completion, all known candles rounded up and coralled into one large crate! I thought I could store them in a 3 bottle wine box but no, too many

:idea:I think candles are this generation's gas mask - I am sure our kids don't understand why we would be scared without them!

As far as it getting worse before it gets better ... I am divided between thinking it's always darkest just before the dawn ... and just chucking it all out!

I popped in a friend's today (housesitting) - depressed to see she has cleared ALL the messy areas of her house (well I only saw downstairs but it's open plan) and just has clear surfaces with either one of two neatly placed decorative items - well pleased for her :o but makes am less inclined to invite her round (desparately looking round room for anything I am not attached to so it can go) :(

On plus side, all eBy items ironed if needed, photographed, then packed up in labelled tissue or brown paper (before cat/dog tumbleweed floats by) and stacked neatly into washing basket - at least I won't have to stare at them for 7 days while I see if I get a bid

Love snow - sorry, big kid here :snow_laug

For anyone who gets depressed, did you read that there's now a link between carbonated drinks and depression - funny because I don't really get depressed but felt weird after Christmas and decided it was the ginger ale that I don't normally drink
