"It is a truth universally acknowledged, that a house in possession of a good stove, must be in want of a cat."
(Sorry Jane...)
I have that cat...he is gorgeous, and he's sitting on the sofa watching the flames in the stove.I am in love.

Fantastic. Mine are on chairs either side of the woodburner now. Toasting their little backs. Soon I open the doors and let the dogs in and then everyone jostles for a position in the warm zone.0 -
Has anyone got a cat that I can borrow for an aspirational evening please. I can't actually imagine how I'm ever going to feel financially secure enough to have a pet. It is one of those dead-of-night worries because it clashes with how I think I should bring up my daughter, and also because my husband had a variety of pets growing up and I think he will want a dog at some point. I am a party-pooper.:heartsmil When you find people who not only tolerate your quirks but celebrate them with glad cries of "Me too!" be sure to cherish them. What about cinnamon trust in your area?
It's vital, of course, to be able to afford to keep any pet you own and i think you are right to stand firm if you cannot afford it ( they are jot cheap) but pet ownership offers children something valuable in learning compassion, responsibility and various other things from pets.0 -
whitewing - if you foster an oldie for a pet rescue they usually agree to meet the vet bills so you (just) have to pay food and litter
Byatt, I have no doubt that you will be posting on the pet boards so will pop over there to see :happylove- does he have a name? If not, you should call him ... Stelios!:heartpuls
whitewing - great hoarding rule, can we have #180 one does not have to get all the ducks in a row to shoot them; one can dispose of a folder even if there are 5 matching ones somewhere which might also be dericharded in timeYou never know how far-reaching something good, that you may do or say today, may affect the lives of others tomorrow0 -

Oh Byatt, I'm so pleased for you and your rescue boy. He must be sitting there grinning inside thinking Aye-aye, really landed on my feet this time.
The parents' cats have responded to snow by attaching themselves firmly to radiators and upholstery, only taking time off from these pleasures when a human bean sits down to offer a lap.
Cats; dominant life form on planet earth.........:rotfl:Every increased possession loads us with a new weariness.

Who's Stelios?I try to take one day at a time, but sometimes several days attack me at once0 -
I really think that my hoarding, messy house, weight, lack of get up and disorganised money situation are all linked. I am very hopeful that chippingnawaybat the hoarding and seeing 'the light' and of course space that everything else will start to slot into place.
I am determined that this time next year I will be able to sit down at this time in the eve knowing up to date with everything with a brew in a tidy room.
Anyway, Mondays are always bad as we don't get in till late because of dance and by the time we have had tea time is moving on but tonight we all did fifteen mins of tidying. I am determined to finish off a box in my room.
Tomorrow I' m going to ask my dad to put my shelf unit up so I can finish off the floor! It is not going to be a dumping ground.. I spent quite a few years abroad and have a couple of nik nacks that help me remember the good times!Don’t put it down - put it away!

Many thanks for the encouraging and supportive comments x
I have managed less today as had a hospital appointment. However I did manage to:
Sort through the bits n pieces in the dining room. Some to my memory box and some in the bin....some Im not sure what to do with. Perhaps I should allow myself one drawer of bits n' pieces? What does everyone else think?
Decluttered one drawer in bedside cabinet. Again lots to the bin and a few bits in my memory box. Got my little travel working again so really pleased as I like to take it with me.
Shredding - did 10 minutes. Cant do anymore as shredder overheats.
Finances - faced up to the aftermath of Christmas and will declutter my debts in a methodical manner.
I will continue apace tomorrow.
Hope you are all doing ok and keeping warm xI must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer.
Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration.
I will face my fear. I will permit it to pass over and through me. When it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path.
When the fear has gone there will be nothing. Only I will remain.0
