Been a quieter time on the decluttering front but a friend who came to help me to clean and tidy today asked if I had any spare pairs of earrings. Over the years various pairs of hers have been broken/lost and she hasn't bought replacements or been given any - she's been unemployed for a long time.
I found 10 pairs that I felt certain I wouldn't miss, but none of which had been a gift from her (!) or were unduly hideous.

Also out at the same time, holding said earrings, was a neat little mock-suede drawstring bag that came with a made to measure silver chain I bought. This had been waiting for such an occasion.

Further declutter to friend was a 1kg bag of white basmati rice - DS has decided he will only eat brown rice now - along with 3 very nice blank message cards, to be sent to her DGC for Easter. Small steps...

    Hello everyone,

Have now finally finished the bathroom cupboard and actually have things on the shelves ;)

I managed to have a clear out of the bedding the other day, started with changing DS bedding, which i only did cos his school shirt needed washing and I had no white washing to do...Anyways whilst hunting through the airing cupboard I decided to sort it all out and have put all the duvets together with their pillowcases and a suitable sheet, so should be easy to pull each set out as required, and have discarded the excess sheets ( well most of them:o) and sorted some single bedding to ask DD if she wants them for DGD and have put others in the carboot/table top sale pile. Plus finally decided that I'm not going to 'shabby chic' the one room that has a single bed in and so the pretty vintage bedding that I've been hoarding will be e-bayed - this is major step forward as I definitely have a 'thing' for vintage textiles:o However that is for the aspirational me that lives in a pretty 'shabby chic'ed cottage somewhere...

    Happy Weekend, everybody!

It has taken me between 9am and 1.15pm today to do little odd chores and sort out DD. I'm shattered, yet none of it was what I planned to do.

Reminder to self: day to day living to a reasonable standard takes time that I never schedule in. (I watched OC cleaners ep 4 last night. I am at the stage that it inspires me - both sides of the coin echo with me).

I noticed today that it is a lot easier to see what jobs need doing since we've been decluttering the unnecessary. Things look out of place and therefore the (still very small) urge to do a bit of housework creeps up on me.

It's coming up to tax year end and if I make a stupendous effort, I could get a lot of paperwork over to the accountant. That was the plan for earlier but I've already lost 4 hours. I want to do it but am put off because I haven't been sorting it as regularly as I did before I had DD. It feels unwieldy but it isn't going to sort itself out unfortunately.

Hello to everyone, I'm new to this thread but used to hang out on the forum a couple of years ago on the Amazon and Weight Loss threads.

I've been inspired by the Flylady's 40 days and 40 nights decluttering for Lent - beats giving up chocolate :p I'm on about day 22. Poor OH is getting well known at the CS.

Hello to BB (if you remember me lol)

Yay:j Hello FFM, yes of course I remember you:D Good to see you here and welcome to the thread; it's like seeing an old family member I haven't seen for a few years:D. Well done for the 40 day challenge!

Today I'm sorting my much loved retro kitchen larder that I use as my craft storage. I've changed what I am focussing on creatively so it needs re organising to be more effective. Have also spent time at a friends who is moving this week helping them pack up.

Blossomhill, I though of you at work on Friday afternoon as I finished off the week by going through my intray and writing up next weeks prioritising to do list. Feels good to know I can hit the ground running Monday morning.
I try to take one day at a time, but sometimes several days attack me at once

Got to the bottom of the ironing pile today whilst listening to lovely Graham Norton on the radio.
The last time that happened was two months ago. It now feels like I have new clothes to wear with clothes back in the wardrobe that haven't been there since January. I came across a blouse that was a Christmas present that I'd completely forgotten about.... I wondered who it belonged to and remembered it was me!

I was shattered by the time DH came home from work, got in bed for a lie down and slept for 3 hours.

Did start to get the financial paperwork laid out in piles but DD decided to help by driving toy cars over it. So, I ought to do some now while DH and DS are watching Match of the Day but I'm struggling to get the oomph to start. Once I start it will go great...

ETA: Just remembered that phrase LIFE REWARDS ACTION so off I go..

Good luck with selling the furniture Catriona, I think you may need your plan b as we found that dining room furniture just doesn't sell, I guess too many people are converting dining rooms to other space. The upside is that if you look for a replacement second hand there are some real bargains to be had so at least you'd get some balance that way.

I've ground to a bit of a half at the mo, need to regroup and have another push.

I'm a bit naffed off about an eBay sale where the item I sent by courier has apparently arrived damage but with no damage to the packaging. It's an expensive item and I can really do without losing the money, we have been ebaying to pay for a trip to France in the summer. The buyer has offered to accept a partial refund which has set the alarm bells ringing, so I'm biting the bullet and agreeing to a full refund once the item is returned. This like this really put me off eBaying :(

    Catriona,

Why not keep an eye out on freecycle for a replacement anyway? If you can get the right sized replacement for nothing, then you could maybe make a decision about the current one.

Also do you or hubby have a noticeboard at work? You could try selling thro there. I found people are sometimes more willing to buy when it's through somewhere they 'know'.

So, I've spent the weekend off work ill. Virtually no day to day stuff or decluttering and today OH is worse ill than me so is in bed you know, the way men can just retire to bed to get better whilst you still have to keep some cogs running (or is that just in this house, I apologise if I'm using a stereotype but OH is being very stereotypical today)

Yesterday I managed to fold some of eldests clothes off her floor I think that was about all I done though :(. Today I done the dishes and sat with eldest whilst I made her hang up some clothes (she keeps telling me she doesn't know how to hang, well she now does)

I've nipped up the shop 5mins up the road for some bits and bobs that were needed and I'm absolutely shattered from it :(. I don't like this I rarely have to give in to illness so I'm feeling extra annoyed at it

Hope you feel better soon sjprmc. It must be tough with little ones when you get ill.

Today I have been continuing reorganising my craft stuff. I did a bit of a ruthless chuck last year, but am now ready for the next level. I had 2 large plastic boxes in the attic with loads of crafty kipple in: it is all over our sitting room floor at present (I'm taking a break for freshly baked cheese scones and Time Team :D).
BY the end of today anything that doesn't fit in the retro kichen larder gets chucked. There will be no more craft stuff scattered across the house/attic.
I'm sorting every thing in to 3 piles: chuck, charity shop, rehome to correct location that isn't craft. I am going to have 2 large empty boxes at the end of this:j.
I have recently started sharing a studio space once a week for making stuff ( one of the unexpected fab things to drop into mylife once I had made room for it by decluttering), so I have now organised everything I need to take with me regularly into 2 grab and go smaller boxes (that live in the larder), so I need no longer scrabble around every week trying not to leave anything I might need at home.
I try to take one day at a time, but sometimes several days attack me at once
