ask them for 1st class virgin trains tickets from london to manchester. horrible customer service though, does surprise me as virgin usually pretty good0

Do you have travel insurance?0

Hey Pebbles,
I'd definitely carry on down the route of spamming their Facebook / Twitter pages... it could generate support as well as spreading awareness
As another option to give to them, haven't they (Virgin) teamed up with Delta now? Is there LGW -> MAN options with them? I doubt it but worth a check.
I also wonder, is there another SkyTeam plane they could put you on (http://www.skyteam.com/)?? - i'm clutching at straws there though (and this is if the 'teaming up' has actually occurred! sometimes these things are announced but take a while to actually come together -- like the US Airways & American Airlines merger won't take effect for ages)
Good luckkeep us up to date!

They do have flights from Heathrow to MAN.
We do have travel insurance, but I don't know what I could do with that.
The first class rail would be OK in a pinch, I suppose.
Thanks for the suggestions everyone.0 -
Pebblesmax,we have flown a few times with VA from Gatwick but we also live near Manchester so when we have booked with expedia or last minute they include a return manchester-gatwick flight with BA.As a gesture of goodwill see with they pay for your flight up to Manchester.0

This was removed fairly quickly, so I posted the same thing on several of the VA open threads on FB. I also posted on my own wall about it. A day later, I got a FB message apologising that I hadn't been told. A day after that, I got an email telling me of the changes, and asking me to call a customer advisor.
I spoke to them today. They will NOT be offering us a flight back to MAN. My alternatives are all absolute rubbish. We can change our return flight to one that goes back to MAN, and only pay the difference in the fares. We won't need to pay the change fee. WooHoo! We fly out on 24th Oct. The last direct flight to MAN is 27th Oct.
That was the best option, there were a couple of fairly silly ones, and then a full refund. Sadly all the flights have increased since we booked, so it's a no win situation for us.
If we keep the flights they have given us now, we will be stranded in Gatwick by VA and have to make our way home from there. No extra flights will be added to get us back to MAN.
I'm not sure what to do now. Surely the have some sort of obligation to get us back to MAN.
Any suggestions please. I'm very unhappy.:(
Hi Pebblesmax, just to let you know we were on the Virgin Man to Vegas flight, booked direct with Virgin, they rang a few weeks before we were due to leave to say that the outbound man/vegas flight was cancelled but they would fly us from Manchester at their expense via BA to Gatwick where we would pick up the Gatwick to Vegas flight, the way back was direct.
FYI there were about 5 people on our BA flight who appeared to have had the same issue and were connecting with us to the onbound Vegas flight.
However when we got on the gatwick Virgin flight I spoke to quite a number of passengers who had originally been booked on the manchester to Vegas direct flight but all through third parties eg travel agents on online bookings. They had had their flights cancelled and been told in no uncertain terms that they would have to find their own way and back from gatwick at their own expense and that Virgin's only offer was to reimburse the orginally flight money if they wanted to cancel.
One guy I spoke to had had to spend £120 on train fare for him and his wife, it wasn't just the cost it was the time it took and also having to spend a night in a hotel also...all extra expense. He was saying that he was going to take Virgin Atlantic to court over it.
Interestingly when we came to our flights home there were two, one to Manchester direct and one to Gatwick. Our direct flight was pretty empty.DFW Nerd 267. DEBT FREE 11.06.08

I'll try that Hovis, thanks. The thing is, we have another 2.5 hours travel North from Manchester anyway, so the original idea of a direct flight and less travelling time is completely lost now.
Thanks Triker. I'll call again tomorrow and see what they will offer us. If they have done the connecting flight before, I may be in with a chance.0 -
I really do not understand how they can do this...I thought they had to get you back MAN...I'm shocked.
I'm also shocked that you guys seem to be timing your trips so we'll probably not get to see you this year.Does remembering a time that a certain degree of personal responsibility was more or less standard means that I am officially old?0 -
Sorry about that ferf. I'll ask you your dates next year so we will definitely meet again.
There's always your last day and our first. It will probably be too difficult though.0
