Well - this is interesting... I was going to take the relevant points from the article, but it's perhaps worth posting a link so people can read it all (as it all seems relevant):

there goes one of our arguments for not flying BA....though it probably also gives us a small amount of additional justification to go for PE instead.
Does remembering a time that a certain degree of personal responsibility was more or less standard means that I am officially old?

Friend of mine just got back from 1 week in Vegas....
She booked with Britishairways holidays, for BA flight, NYNY inc resort fee....

Soooooooooooo, apart from being delayed for 2 hours last Saturday, the plane took off and away they went.....
Now, when I flew with Virgin direct 2 years ago, I read that they run out of drinks on purpose after 90 mins flight time......

So found it odd when she said, on the BA flight, they run out of drink (apart from water and some cola/tea/coffee) after only 1 hour in the air.... She got a meal with that drink (1 hour airborne), and then got a biscuit snack 1hr before they landed!

Is that normal for BA ?!!!!!!!
Sooooooooooooo, she got to the NYNY hotel (booked with BA 3 months ago mind) on Sat late afternoon....
NYNY have no record of her booking, so no amount of argueing will sort anything, she hands over the credit card to get her room..
She calls BA, BA say its another company that handle the hotel booking and give her a number to call in the States!
Offices closed by now (6pm Sat), and offices closed on Sunday as she found out..

I think by Monday it got sorted, but my god, what a mess!!!
Anyone else had similar experiences when booking a 'holiday' with BA or VA or TC ?

oh and going on from the Virgin talk about charging for seats, would that be from flights booked from those dates onwards you reckon ?
I booked my flight back in July ready for May 2014....

unfortuantely it depends (I think) when your flight is, when you booked it is irrelevant:

"Between 18 December 2013 and 30 January 2014 you will only be able to assign seats for flights departing on or before 01 March 2104. For most flights between 01 February 2014 until 31 May 2014 seats will be available to select 30 days before departure and from 01 June seats will be available from time of booking. Seats can be assigned through Manage Flights which is available up to 24 hours before departure. "

grrrr !! what a farse! I was hoping to book the 2 seats at the back of the plane like I did before!

Conflicting info now, as my flight is booked with Delta Airlines (codeshare with Virgin),

Just looked at the booking, it still states I can select my seat from the 18th Feb onwards, no mention of a fee.......
Hmmmmmmmmmm, will soon see if I have to pay £100 to get the seats I want!

Thats the experience I had when flying from Heathrow to San Francisco with BA.

1 round of drinks before they ran out, lunch 1 hour after take off, and than an 8 hour famine before we got anything else to eat or drink, an hour before we landed.

I have only flow longhaul once in my adult life and that was to Vegas with Delta. They wouldn't stop feeding me! I was stuffed with food and drink for the entire journey, or so it felt.

being Delta, it may be different? I've not read the small print :)
or it may be their systems are still being updated... who knows!

I suppose one upside is that you've more chance of getting the seats you want, as presumably quite a few people will probably be put off by paying £50pp?
  • I'll take a great deal of satisfaction writing this then lol.
I didn't do a trip report in November from my visit last month but we flew BA.

    6 lads.

We bagged the cot seats at the front of economy as I love those cot tables as you get a bit of a communal area. It was a safe bet as I've never seen a baby in a BA cot seat to Vegas before.
We got absolutely mullered on the flight. The steward in the galley was happy to show me where everything was and said "help yourself but don't get rowdy".
There was also an Irish group on the plane who decided to obliterate the whiskey stock and I've never seen such a social long haul flight from different groups.

In fact I had so much that when I got off the plane I had a headache...!

The bonus of being at the front of economy was we got straight off and through immigration in no more than 5 minutes.

Last year we went to Puerto Rico on BA and there were 15 of us for a wedding - again they couldn't give us enough drink.
