The prescribed bottles are 500ml. Maybe we can ask the doctor to prescribe in 100mls but he would need 3 bottles to cover 14 days though 2 could go on the suitcase.

We normally take cash for the first 4-5 days and then start topping up using our debit cards when it becomes clear we need to.

So you are saying that you top up whilst over there using your debit card? Do you do that online?

I thought we wold put the money on the card before we go. Of course we plan to take some cash as well.

Last time we went we took over 4000 in cash but Ive just been watching 'Nothing To Declare' and they said you cannot take more than 1000 in cash out of the EU without documentation to prove its really yours. I need to get a LOT more savvy!!!!!

I would never put required medication in a suitcase in case it doesn't arrive or ends up with a big hole in the case like mine did last week

No - we just make sure we have funds in our accounts to cover the remainder of our budget and we withdraw at ATMs using our our debit cards...we have two 'good' current accounts - Metro and Abbey Zero - with no loading or fees or nasties...Metro is only used for holiday and is our main card while away...Abbey is our standard current account and we just add funds to cover any surprises to it before we go so we know it's there if we need it. So if our initial cash reserves start running a bit low we will start taking withdrawals on our debit cards. We have a running total of what we had left to withdraw and what we have withdrawn so we know where we are against the total trip budget.

Are you sure it's not 10,000 rather than 1,000?

agree with photome - never put prescription medication in a checked case...you can easily fit 3x100ml bottles in the size of plastic bag that you are allowed to take through with you.

That's pretty bad damage to the suitcase. Hope you do get some compensation.
