Well we made it, we're in the MGM grand as I type this on the iPad with sore eyes and feet (I'm physically typing with my fingers, but you know what I meant)

Okay so the drive was boring, to be expected, although the rain made it a bit more interesting than normal I guess. We were running late after getting stuck in girly shops at Ontario mills outlet, so a splash and dash of gas (god I wish ours as prices were this good) and we set off aside from hitting a pallet on the freeway (saw it coming too late - big wood chunk!) the drive was pretty uneventful, we're going to do primm and stuff on the way back we decided...

Arrived in Vegas, windy windy day. Surprised how easy it is to drive up the strip. We ran in to the mirage to collect our tickets for love, turned out we decided to stay at the mirage for the show as it was only 60mins out. Loved the show, really impressive. So we managed to get to the MGM grand in 5 or so minutes, got a fairly good parking space and from the garage to check in to room was a swift 10 minutes.

Service at check in sirly, really not pleasant to be honest. As we took a my Vegas night for the Friday we have to check out of our premium room and into a petite king, no discussion on options, was willing to pay a little but no dice, just a shrift brush off. Less than impressed.

Had some food at the Venetian, just something quick as we were short on time, worst food we've had in the us.

So now we're checked in its nice, but I need to print some tickets, this isn't included in the resort fee. So I guess I'll have to pay...really annoying as they have a fixed screen boarding pass printing service...even a courtyard isn't this mean...

First impressions on Vegas, well, compared to la this place is heaving with Brits, and not the polite types either, guess I'll get used to it, but not exactly impressed.

Finding the place a bit daunting to be honest going to give it some time, but want to have a go at a gamble, nothing at all serious, just low value stuff, where is best to go for this? I see lots of people playing using cards, really don't want to go down that route, just cash, simple small amounts per roll...help me out. Im a 2p machine addict when it to the coast for ale :D

Trying to stay wake now to fix the 3am self wake up calls too...

I don't play tables but I am not aware that you can place bets via card - unless you are seeing players club / loyalty cards which are just there to track play and earn comps? Or maybe people who have put money against a marker at the cage (I haven't done this before but I know you can do it)...but I don't think you can bet directly against a credit or debit card.

Where to go may depend on what you mean by small amounts - some of the larger strip properties may have higher minimums than you are happy with...are you looking for craps specifically?

Noooo no tables...slots, slots I can play and not make a total phool of myself, but it seems in the MGM at least that the minimums are quite high...only certain machines seem to have bills slots which had me thinking they were card transactions

ok you said per roll which is what made me think craps :) - very few casinos accept coins anymore - you can put a note of any denomination in so $1 if you want...all slot machines will have a place to insert a note.

most machines will have a minimum of $.30/$.40/$.50 per spin...if you want to go lower than that then you can find a machine that allows you to select the number of lines you want to play...choose less than full lines and a bet per line that, when muliplied by your stake is what you would like to bet.

so if you want to be $0.15/spin for example find a penny machine that lets you select how many lines you want to play, select 15 lines and 1 credit per line...you may minimize chances of getting a bonus round as on some machines the bonus trigger must land on a played line,.

  • Visidigi - you may be mistaking the cards in machines for players cards? These are not credit cards but the MLife, Total Rewards cards (like a Nectar or Club card).

They could be the cards you're seeing in machines :)

It's 6am and I'm awake, someone in the corridor sounds like they have had a good night as they try to get the door card in the slot for the 50 billionth time, might get up and 'help' them get to bed in a minute!

I think those cards are the player cards, time for me to have a fresh head today and see it all again in the hope I like it. The other half is in awe. She loves it, the scale, the lights, the difference. I guess that's a good thing as it was her that wanted to come to Vegas!

I'm struggling purely because despite telling everyone it's our first time I feel like I'm getting little help here on the ground - I shouldn't need to go to a uk forum for help but I'm so glad you're all here! I've just woken up because aside from the keys outside I remembered we were supposed to I get beverage credit on checkin yet no mention...feel a little aggrieved I've got to chase for it but so be it.

It's the Grand Canyon day tour tomorrow so need to get tickets and hotel pickup sorted out today, hopefully someone in the business center will take pity on me!

Breakfast awaits, got a my Vegas buffet credit at mirage to use today...hopefully it's at least okay!

Oh and almost forgot. Bathroom smells like a casino floor - previous occupant seems to have smoked in a no smoking room - probably not unusual round here but yet something to say to someone...wasn't me!
  • Got back from Vegas just over 2 weeks ago, suffered whilst I was there with dizziness on and off and this continued for 2 whole weeks when I got back. Doctor has no explanation 'probably viral'. Same thing happened when I went to Vegas 3 years ago though it stopped after a day or 2 at home. Wish I knew what caused it so I could try to stop it for next trip in May.

We stayed at the Aria, it was lovely, booked a deluxe room but hit lucky on check in, we got a city view deluxe room on floor 51, the view was amazing, we also had the resort fees waived (don't know how or why!!) and chocolate strawberries delivered to the room.

Also had my biggest win ever on the slots $130 on a 1c machine, made my day lol!
