From your list, both NYNY and MC have building work out front but not as bad as Flamingo, that is surrounded by work inc knocking Bills down, lots of noise and quite bad getting in & out of the car park.
    I would go with Vdara

The building work at the Flamingo looks ugly and would really spoil the view if you had a lower-level room, but I can't say I noticed any appreciable noise from it. The biggest problem was getting to the car park, which was a bit painful first time out before discovering the way in off Audrie Street which is off E Flamingo Road - no direct access from the strip.

Also a bit incongruous to have the Flamingo outside terrace bar, on the corner, right next to a building site.
  • Just added you on twitter. :) Get you with Jonathan Ross! Cool photo!

What is this social rewards thing?

I've only just started doing Social Rewards so someone else best explain properly. Basically you get rewards at Caesars group proerties for sharing, liking, tweeting, watching videos etc. You get points that you can then exchange for comp points, or buffets, show tickets etc. I'm hoping it will be worthwhile :)

I had to google it to see where it was, and while I commend you on your money saving ways, there's no way I could stop there....sorry! I don't think I'd feel safe. Do you walk to the strip and back from there or get a taxi?

We will have a hire car as we are only staying four nights (Inc part of the weekend) to meet up with friends staying there, going to the Grand canyon for a couple of nights, then driving through the dessert to Barstow, a few other places on the way then to LA eventually, didn't like the resort fees + tax, wanting varying (some quoted $200) upfront deposits on rooms payable locally for most of the bigger hotels, which made the quoted room price nonsense, I have never paid such things elsewhere & I like to pay upfront & get the 12 - 15 percent up front cash-backs & the free nights room rewards that I get on these deals which reduces the price I have paid even more than quoted, it's only a base I'm not living there, the reviews are way better than a lot of the resort type hotels anyway, I like to get around, not one for doing the typical tourist, marooned in city routine

I have stayed at a few of the Motel 6 type places in Vegas when there on my own and prices were high due to a big event. The draw back is the other clientele and dodgy types in the parking lots etc. All the casino/hotels have reasonable security and regular patrols round the area . The best of the cheapies I found was the Super 8 next to Ellis Island.

we stayed at the Motel 6 next to the Americas Best Value Inn & Suites (have to admit that the name had me expecting a bit different to the photos) on my first visit to Vegas in 1997...we didn't feel unsafe walking over to MGM or Tropicana or back to the Motel 6 even in the wee small hours...it is on a major street with pretty much constant traffic...we wouldn't choose to stay there now...and a lot of those here would fall into the 'like to get around, not one for doing the typical tourist, marooned in city routine' but choose to stay somewhere a bit nicer for not a lot more money but everyone's different.

I don't quite understand this bit though

wanting varying (some quoted $200) upfront deposits on rooms payable locally for most of the bigger hotels

We've never paid more than the first night as an upfront deposit...unless that relatest to the deposit most hotels will expect at the time of check-in and many will have as a hold on a CC and never actually pay?

Georgiegirl256 - have fabulous trip and hope you will let us have a trip report when you are back! :)
Does remembering a time that a certain degree of personal responsibility was more or less standard means that I am officially old?

Anybody stayed in a modernised room in the Quad yet? Quite liked the easy access to the Strip (for the part that's open) and a nicer "feel" compared to IP
