Wow! Well, that took some time to catch up with this thread!
First of all, thanks to Lesley and Stoneman (and respected partners) for meeting up at Platinum - enjoyed it, and we hope you enjoyed the rest of your trips! I had never given much thought to my username on this forum, though I'm going to try and think of some cool acronym for it nowWas funny seeing Lesley and her fella in PlanetHo (shortly after she had claimed the Scots were stereotyped as alcoholics) with a yard long drink
also we enjoyed Tracys, Oscar Meyer wiener story!
Can't believe it, totally caught in the act. As soon as we gave the English folk the slip we headed straight for the bar with the largest drinks possible. Haha. Well, here's what actually happened...we had the groupon and had plans for most of the other nights which didn't include using the groupon so we decided to just go for it. What I will also say (although I obviously can't prove it) is that we dumped the drinks about halfway through them. Couldn't possibly drink it and we honestly were sober, whether that was due to no alcohol being in it or having drinks several nights in a row I can't really prove).
I am proud to say that not a drop of alcohol has passed my lips since arriving back in the UK a week an a half ago. I think we had drinks every night in Vegas...and to be honest I'm not a very good Scot - I actually don't normally drink very much so it was quite overwhelming making the most of happy hours, drinks bumps at buffet and then being offered (free!!) drinks at the slots!0 -
Newbie here - 10 days until we go to LV for the very first time! It's not the sort of holiday we normally go on but me and OH both turned 50 this year so we thought we should do something different...
Thank you for all the helpful information and all the links on the front pages!
We're flying with BA, 5 nights in the Bellagio. Not very MSE but we were happy with the deal - £300 cheaper than Virgin, and the Bellagio on a 'book 4 nights get fifth night free' with BA. I've pre-booked 'Love' (massive Beatles fans - already have the album), and a trip to the Hoover Dam and have the Paris buffet Groupon. We're not having a car but are happy to walk or edge slowly forward on the bus :rotfl:
I wonder if the collective wisdom can advise re: a couple of novice questions please? First question regarding ID - am I right in thinking that bars etc won't accept UK photocard driving licence as ID? So I have to carry our passports? I have to say that there's no way on earth anyone will look at us and think we're under 25so maybe we won't be ID'd?
Has anyone tried Scarpetta at the Cosmopolitan? There are some reviews on Trip Advisor but I never feel TA is very reliable. I have a bit of a thing for Scott Conant...:o
Finally, do you have any favourite restaurants in Downtown for an evening meal? We're open to anything really except Oscars - I can't relax and enjoy my dinner if any minute we might be joined by a 'buxom broad'! :eek:0 -
UK photocard is fine as ID. I'm 39 and I occasionally get asked for ID so don't rule it out. I NEVER get asked at home....not for the last 20 years anyway :rotfl:0

I've never had any problem with using my driving license as ID in the states and I'm young looking for my age so always get asked for it, even at home!
We had dinner at the triple 7 brewery in Main Street station downton. Yummy craft beers and the bar food type stuff was nice, chicken wings, mozzarella sticks etc. The prime rib also looked yummy.
They have a happy hour 4-6pm.
Have a fab time.0 -
Oh, and Willy Wonka machine
Thanks for the report - I must look into this Willy Wonka machine.
I have always been somewhat intrigued by Monte Carlo but hubby is a bit meh about it...this may give me some ammunition to look into it further though.
I'm really surprised about GR Steak as we booked way way in advance and could only get a really late seating.,...good to know it's a bit more accessible without having to plan months in advance.
Because of your TR and the recent posts about it I'm looking into the social rewards thing...I had a twitter account years ago and cancelled it - but we'll try again. I think I've followed everyone who posted here, and hubby will probably do the same...I am @ferf1223 (surprise) and he is @TakreemVegas if anyone would like to follow us. I cannot promise that we will do a lot but nvh's "for time invested, SocialRewards is much better than myVegas!" made it a no-brainer for me.Does remembering a time that a certain degree of personal responsibility was more or less standard means that I am officially old?0 -

I've has issues using a UK photocard licence as ID at player club booths but not otherwise, not for credit card purchases, etc...I am not sure I have ever been carded in Vegas.I suppose that approaching mid-40s I should not be disappointed but still.

We like Triple George Grill...though we have only ever been with a restaurant.com voucher and last time I checked they were no longer participating...we would probably still go - we have had a few nice meals there and like the place itself.Does remembering a time that a certain degree of personal responsibility was more or less standard means that I am officially old?0 -
I've got into trouble a number of times for only having drivers license and no passport in the casinos. At bars drivers license seems to be fine.0

If you are looking for a very good meal and being MSE then the porterhouse special ($24) at redwood grill in California is excellent
http://www.thecal.com/dine/redwood-bar-and-grill
It is avery old school Vegas restaurant
they do of course have other things on the Menu but the we will be heading back there in a couple of weeks time for another Porterhouse0 -
I now remember once that Flamingo wouldn't let me use my driving license, I think I was trying to redeem a coupon with my players card...it was years ago and likely an ACG match play or something. They made a bit of fuss and said no, yet I know I used my driving license any other time (including joining their slot club although it was at Harrah's) as I don't carry a passport in Vegas. I have joined many other slot clubs with driving license and the Flamingo incident appears to be isolated. I just wouldn't walk about with my passport when I have another form of ID I can use.0
