noticed USD rates are creeping up...getting close to the high in the last year though looks like I missed the latest peak about a week ago.

we still bring some cash with us, so now the decision when to commit and exchange comes into play.

And gosh how time flies...I would never have thought it had been so long since the $2/£1 days

Does remembering a time that a certain degree of personal responsibility was more or less standard means that I am officially old?

We just bought some more the other week, thought we'd got a good deal then a day or so after they went even higher....typical!

Can't view the charts as I'm on an iPad, out of interest, how long ago was it when it was $2 to the pound?

it looks like July 2008 was the last point it was at or over $2...it does not seem that long ago...over 5 years...I cannot believe that.

I will always remember the $2.11 trip....looking back it would have probably been Nov 2007.

  • Does anyone else do Social Rewards? I've registered but I only have 9 followers on twitter and you need 10 to be able to get points on twitter  Is there anyone who wouldn't mind following me on twitter so I can play? @lesleyclark3

We expect we'll be going next September, so hopefully I can rack up some rewards by then :)

Ok, so I've swerved MyVegas as we've not had a trip booked. But now we have a holiday booked for Easter 2014, is it worth me starting playing now.what sort of stuff can I expect to get if I start playing now, on a fairly regular but not obsessive basis?

I'd probably set up a temporary Facebook account as if I have to add lots of random friends, I don't want people seeing my personal profile - will that work?

Edit - haha, I just read a detailed blog post which basically said it's not worth it! That should save me some time then :D
I am going next March - so far just by playing a bit every day as I log into Facebook I have 14000 points, enough for a few things already. Thinking of going more for the buffets rather than shows so far as we should be able to pick up 2for1 show tickets when we get there.

I have made a decision not to spam my facebook friends with this at all and I will not use real money to purchase any points - very MSE don't you think?

Our cabbie took us via Swenson to Platinum, but then also via Paradise, came to $19 (should have been $14) so I gives him $20. He says "the fare was $19", I said "yes, the $1 tip is for taking the long route" at which point he stands well back from the cab and says "well get your own bags out then"
But then I am writing this after being long hauled in Nottingham, £8 fare that should have been £6. He got the £6.
They really should stick to doing this to the students and not the adults.

You go onto Swenson and then onto Paradise. Swenson heads north east after Koval, so you don't really want to be staying on it all the way to Flamingo Road. I'm not sure that $19 is that high, given the airport surcharge and likely traffic in the early evening.
  • Does anyone use shuttle buses from the airport to hotel? Just reading up on the continuing nightmares about rip-off taxis, so thinking an airport shuttle might be the way. Any major disadvantages? Are they easy to book in advance of arriving on LV?
Have always jumped into a taxi straight to the hotel - most it should cost is $20 depending on where you are staying on the strip. Downside is that taxi queue is longer than shuttle one - so it could be ok to go to hotel via shuttle depending on cost.
I always get a taxi back to airport for reasons you describe.
  • Hey Lesley just followed you over on Twitter. I find the Social Rewards program really easy and far less time consuming than MyVegas. I managed to rack up around $200 for my trip last May. I do find that there doesnt seem to be any rhyme or reason to the way they issue Total Rewards points within the actual resorts though. I managed to earn points for "gaming" which is hilarious as I didnt place a single bet that whole trip.

I must be a bit of an extreme MSEer, if I am not renting a car I walk from Terminal one to the strip 38 minutes with a roller bag. Great exercise after hours trapped in an aluminium tube.
  • Is Planet Hollywood one of those hotels or not?

Planet Hollywood should be via Swenson.

Rio/Palms, maybe even TI I believe should be 'Tunnel'.

Someone else may like to add their thoughts.
