Just booked for next month!
Looking for a fairly cheap hotel for the first night (a Wednesday), before joining a few others on the Thursday.
I've found the following options, mostly through trivago and other third parties.
Luxor £32
Excalibur £24
Orleans £31
Bally's £32
Tropicana £44
Caesars £62
all + resort fee.
Any views?
Normally I'd go for Bally's, but moving to the MGM on the Thursday so tempted to go for one near there for convenience. Any opinions on the tropicana? How acceptable would luxor and excalibur be?

You don't need special roll up ones, you just pile them up with the valve open and roll around on them till they're all squished, then screw the valve closed.
I can't help it - this did make me laugh out loud at the visual...awesome.
I do agree though on the making it smaller but not lighter thing though, which is probably why we haven't gone the route of the vacuum bags before...we did once buy a king sized down duvet though ($90 at a time the exchange rate was about 2-1...it seemed practically free) - it's amazing how small such a big thing squishes down if you make the effort.Does remembering a time that a certain degree of personal responsibility was more or less standard means that I am officially old?0 -
For everyone going soon, have a brilliant time
I am so suffering withdrawal symptoms now the jet lag is starting yo wear off!

The Luxor had never even entered my radar as somewhere I would want to stay until I was reading about it recently, and now I wouldn't mind stopping there just to experience being in a room in the pyramid! It maybe isn't all that, I don't know, but apparently it's worth trying once.As you're only going to be stopping for the one night, that's the one I'd choose, don't really have any other views on the other hotels as I've never stopped at any of them, but like you say, Ballys, and Caesars aren't as conveinient for the MGM.

What was Marilyns at the Tuscany like .......and the general feel of the Tuscany please Lesley ?
Depends what you like really. It's not posh, and it's not like the places you see in the casinos on the trip these days. The food was a large portion (we had baked ziti) came in a big square plate which we shared, and we also got fries, again a large portion and food was decent without being salty. We had 2 sodas as well and the bill was $19 and was enough to feed us both. Good value. General feel of the place was again not posh, but not the worst. Although we go into Ellis Island sometimes, I find it a bit 'iffy' at times....Tuscany was a step better than that (easily), but again the casino wasn't glitzy like on the strip but I thought everything seemed clean enough etc.

Stoneman - not sure if you will read this when you arrive. A few posts ago you mentioned going to happy hour at Stir (I think at 6pm tomorrow night) and nvh has said they are thinking about popping over for happy hour tomorrow night too.
We are hoping it will dry up for some pool time tomorrow before we go to return our car. We may even see you at the pool if you are there. Our car is due back at 230, we'll likely go with plenty of time then still plan to do Wynn buffet (with Champagne bump) around 230pm, but then we'll head back to Stir for happy hour around 6pm....all being well. Hopefully nvh will confirm if this suits them...and we can have a mini-meet at 6.
Excuse us though if we get good champagne service at Wynn and we end up a bit tipsy :rotfl:0 -

For one night I dont think it matters, but if it was me it would be the Orleans. you dont have to give them much play to be offered 2 free nights twice a year0 -

Long daytime flight, so a doze on the plane is fine. Stay up late when you arrive as you would have had a lazy day, then hopefully you will sleep for a few hours overnight and be raring to go in the morning.
You shouldn't get jet lag when you are there, though you may be waking up early.
That flight home is a difficult time. I would try and get some sleep on the plane and once you land stay awake all day. You probably will get jet lag once you are home. The key is to avoid sleeping during the day when you are back.I'm a Forum Ambassador on the housing, mortgages & student money saving boards. Jet lag always hits us when we get back. Especially I find when you land back in the UK early (like you are and we are too, round about the same time), as you have to struggle to keep yourself awake until bedtime, I find it really hard to keep my eyes open and just want to sleep.
Silvercar offered some good advice to stay awake as long as you can when you get to Vegas, although arriving at 20.30 that shouldn't be that hard. That way, you should find it easier to drop off and then feel more refreshed the next day.
Try and catch some sleep on the plane, that's my plan, although for some reason, I seem to never be able to sleep on plane.
We arrive at about 12.30pm, so have quite a while before bedtime! I've read that the best thing to do is to get out into the sunshine....that's if there is any, going by poor Lesley's TR....0
