What's your budget for hotels? This will be the driving factor for any recommendationsIt might make more sense to get a feel for what sort of budget you have and go from there - look at the first page for links to deals and see what might fit your budget...it may be that there is a property on the strip that would suit...or it may be that somewhere like Orleans would work for you..we're strip people, we like to walk out of our hotel and be in the middle of it and not have to rely on shuttles...but many people here love Orleans.
Although, looking at the convention calendar, I think one of the bigger conventions of the year may be in town your dates? 5th to 8th November - 130,000 people...so hotel prices may be higher than normal that week, unfortunately. Looking at a few rate calendars it does seem like rates are much higher than the week before or after...double in a lot of cases.
Well, you just made me panic, but then breathe a sigh of relief! We're driving up to LV on oct 28th, so we're in that cheaper week before
Budget wise ill shoot for anything $150 and under a night including resort fees - I don't have to spend that much but that's a limit I'd like to stick to. Bookit.com and hotels.com are coming up with some but having never been I have no idea what to look out for...
Thanks in advance...0 -

you can stay in some pretty nice places on the strip for that (or quite a bit less). Have you looked at the links on the first page for hotel deals? Sometimes there are very good deals to be had booking direct.
Quite a few hotels will fall within your range so suggestions will probably be personal preference and you may have most hotels mentioned without any parameters.
TI has an offer on at the moment that you could get a petite suite for $151/night average including all taxes and resort fee.
So the possibilities are pretty wide open for you.
And I'll suggest TI or Paris just because we like them.Does remembering a time that a certain degree of personal responsibility was more or less standard means that I am officially old?0 -
We're looking to walk where we can (id like to be able to have a beer at night) from what I can see hotel shuttles go all over...
So a Hotel on the strip clearly isn't an absolute need unless im missing something?
To me, part of the Las Vegas experience is staying on the strip itself. I wouldn't like it if we stopped off strip as we like to just walk out of our hotel and have everything close by without having to get a taxi or a shuttle bus.
I think the Monte Carlo is meant to be a nice hotel that is reasonably priced too. The Stratosphere is another decent hotel (we've stayed there twice), it's on the strip too, but it is right down the bottom, so if you don't get transport, it will involve quite abit more walking.0 -
Thanks, knew I forgot something

Forget the star rating and just ask on here, but even the cheap hotels dont have grotty rooms (maybe the quad does)
I am one who loves the Orleans but I wouldnt recomend there for a first time or with your budget
Not sure most hotels have shuttles, just the ones of strip and then you are limited to one drop off (normally).
Taking in to consideration your budget and first time, I would try Mirage, for a real Vegas experience0 -

Monte Carlo and NYNY have lots of building work going on out the front although I wouldnt think that would affect your stay.
I am with you, I like the Strat but most dont due to its location and it is also a budget hotel with rooms often available at around $30 a night0 -
Talking of cheaper places - has anyone (here) actually stayed at the Tuscany Suites (near the Plat) ?I Would Rather Climb A Mountain Than Crawl Into A Hole
MSE Florida wedding .....no problem0 -
I stayed at Alexis Park as part of a tour group, and it was pretty decent - really big rooms, lots of parking, and was able to walk from there to the strip.0

Oh yes, of course, I forgot about the building work at MC and NYNY. Last time we were there (7 years ago), they were working on City Centre right opposite our hotel....the damn thing kept me awake for nearly 2 weeks, but then again I can sometimes have trouble dropping off to sleep.
The DH mentioned us stopping at the MC because he'd found a really good deal on a Spa Suite, but I had my mind set on PH. Also because it also seems (correct me if I'm wrong here) abit of a boring hotel compared to others in the near vicinity? I couldn't even remember where it was at first, I couldn't remember walking past it. Having said that though, it does seem to be a good clean, reasonably priced hotel that is centrally located.
Like you say, the Mirage is another good one to consider.0 -
Ok I've stayed in quite a range.
First time i went we stayed Downtown in USA Hotels on Fremont which was like something out of CSI everyday. brilliant experience - saw bodybags being loaded into ambulances and so many drug deals. was offered a knife for 5c one day.
We were young so it was quite a laugh.
Next time we stayed in Stratosphere - it is too far out for me, yes. For not a lot more you can stay central strip which is what its all about really.
Nice hotel, however, and due to its location you tend to not get idiots wandering in and out.
Then I stayed in Tropicana and The Palazzo earlier this year with the wife (her first visit).
Trop was superb, clean, bright, great staff (fantastic in fact) and the drinks service was so prompt.
It's a touch on the smaller side but served a purpose.
The Palazzo was out of this world - we had a suite (they're all suites and it was only £90 a night through lastminute.com secret hotels) on the 46th floor. Utterly huge place - twinned with The Venetian its technically the largest hotel in the world. Food supreme, casino amazing, cocktails out of this world, room service to die for. Honestly it was the most unreal place.
I'm going again this year in November with my mates and we're staying Monte Carlo - it has a free tram taking you to CityCenter and then Bellagio which is a touch.
As long as it has a bed and a roof in the room I'm happy - i don't expect to see it much during a week of partying!!0 -
Thanks for all the feedback - appreciate the budget can get me a lot, of course I don't need to spend it all
I suspect the offers for the dates I'm going aren't all there yet, so I'm willing to wait a while to see what comes up, but an initial look has...
MGM grand - $306 although its a petite king so not interested...
Mirage is $308 for a double king...
Ti is $253 for a deluxe room...337 if I want a strip view...
Must admit the ti looks good value and reviews seem reasonable...although the price doesn't include those annoying $28 a night resort fees...
Question is do I hold off or get booking at these rates...0
