If it was in the day I'd say get on the train into Manhattan but at night -I'd priceline an airport hotel and enjoy a proper bed and a decent shower for a few hours. Otherwise you'll arrive in Vegas so wrecked you'll probably lose the first day or so.
Thank you Duchy, I am looking at a lounge for the wait, as I am guessing it will take some time through immigration etc. I have a feeling the 1st day will be a bit of a waste in any case. But a hotel would be a good option too, so will definitely explore this. We're leaving from T8, and rumour has it that there are no seats at all, apart from a section for disabled.0 -
Overall I actually preferred Zion...though the overnight stay at the south rim was spectacular for all the stars, I liked being down and looking up at Zion rather than looking over the GC, if you see what I mean? I know you can do hiking tours down in the GC but we didn't...I really enjoyed Zion a lot and would go there again one day.
I am really excited about Zion, having been to GC already this year and having been there twice, we wanted to do something a bit different. And seeing how beautiful it is in the autumn/ winter, I will make sure my camera is fully charged and memory card empty!0 -
I'm currently trying to find out when Roos-N-More is open in September. Website has only got up to August, so I've sent an email. We've got a car on 7th & 8th so fingers crossed.
Has anyone else been? I'm sure I found out about it because it was mentioned on hear a year or two ago.
We have and would go back...for us the Walk With the Otters experience was our favourite thing we have ever done anywhere near Vegas...we got lucky though and heard about it when we were - they actually started it a bit early as when we heard about it and paid the extra to do it we hadn't realised it was to start a bit later in the day after we would likely have been planning on heading back - if it's of any interest would be worth checking what time it will start, and places are limited... we would go again.
it isn't posh - it is in the middle of the desert after all, but I don't like zoos normally...I love animals but too many zoos have too many animals in small cages and it makes me sad...this is much better to me, and because they only open to the general public occasionally it seems like they really are there more for educational purposes than trying to make a quick buck (and it's quite cheap to get in).Does remembering a time that a certain degree of personal responsibility was more or less standard means that I am officially old?0 -
We're planning on a 10 day trip in October to do LA, San Fran and LV - must admit, we had only reserved two days for LV, but im being told by those more in the know that LA isn't worth more than 2 days, LV 3-4 and 4 for San Fran.
Does this sound about right? We're either driving it all or driving/southwesting.
Plenty of planning to do, the hotels in LV are quite cheap, but from the couple of pages of this thread I've read im thinking I can get it even cheaper than I thought (im not a gambler...)
That sounds like an amazing trip, you'll have fun planning for sure :j As everyone is different, maybe sit down and work out what you want to do/ see in each place and from there work out how long it will take? That should hopefully help with splitting the days.0 -
Must admit the more I read about lv the more I'm finding to do. Which quite annoying lol
I can imagine with a limited period of time that would be annoyingbut I'm glad you are looking into it...nothing frustrates me more as people coming back from Vegas and saying 'if you don't gamble there's nothing to do and everything is really expensive everywhere'...I always tut to myself and think 'there's someone who did no research at all'...there's tons to do but if you get off the plane and step out of your hotel and decide then to think about what to do I can see how it would seem like there's nothing to do but gamble...but there really really is.
Maybe it will be a taster trip - and maybe you will find that you want to go back another time after all.Does remembering a time that a certain degree of personal responsibility was more or less standard means that I am officially old?0 -

MSE Florida wedding .....no problem0 -
We're going to drive as much as we can, if we end up going san Fran to lv then we'll southwest it as its not a great drive as I understand.
Lv is the only place we'll stay near the be centre of everything - just need decent priced parking - we're both going to be drivers on the car if its not too expensive.
Must admit the more I read about lv the more I'm finding to do. Which quite annoying lol
We spent 4 nights in SF last year. We did Alcatraz and I think the whole trip from start to finish was about 3 hours. We also did Chinatown, Trolley Car ride, Golden Gate Bridge and Union Square. We didn't need 4 days for that, but we were visiting family and friends in the area, so we had that time to add to our itinerary. The highlight for me was meeting a friend for drinks at the View Lounge inside the Marriot Marquis in SF. The view was spectacular!
We don't gamble much either and manage not to get bored on our marathon trips.
Some of the more obscure things we have done are visit the bar in Goodsprings NV, where Clark Gable waited for the recovery of Carole Lombard's body after a plane crashed into a mountain. (For the youngsters, google them.)
Visited the marker where the railroad tracks met after they had started building from East and West.

I have wanted to do this for awhile - I think Norm was talking about having done a tour and I think it would be really fascinating based on what he told us.Does remembering a time that a certain degree of personal responsibility was more or less standard means that I am officially old?0
