Nooooooooo Go in older clothes and buy there at 1/2 price or less. (very MSE)

We'll probably do that too :rotfl:

She's like me though and needs time to prepare, and half of the fun is in the preperation (well maybe a 1/4 when it comes to Vegas) :p

Just checked in online...soooooo excited now!

Only slight downer is my son who has been eagerly waiting and watching Wet n Wild being built has broken his wrist :(, as you can imagine he is devastated at not being able to go on the slides. I've told him we'll just have to go back again:D

I've already made an excuse to get her to check her passport, just in case it ran out in the next year :D

Its booked now, but I'll tell her when its paid off I think, staying at the MGM Grand is it was the best deal I could find - staying in a Grand Queen room and flying direct from Manchester with Thomas Cook.

I've been before, but only for 2 nights as part of an organised tour, but she's never been to the USA before

Awwww what a lovely son you are, I bet she'll be so chuffed! :) A friend of mine stayed in the MGM Grand, and she said it was a really nice hotel. I love the rainforest cafe in there!

The first time we ever went to Las Vegas was only for 2 nights as part of an organised tour too!

We're planning on a 10 day trip in October to do LA, San Fran and LV - must admit, we had only reserved two days for LV, but im being told by those more in the know that LA isn't worth more than 2 days, LV 3-4 and 4 for San Fran.

Does this sound about right? We're either driving it all or driving/southwesting.

Plenty of planning to do, the hotels in LV are quite cheap, but from the couple of pages of this thread I've read im thinking I can get it even cheaper than I thought (im not a gambler...)

At first I was going to agree with the person who said that LA isn't worth more than 2 days, because I was remembering back to how we thought Hollywood was a dump, but then I remembered that we really loved Santa Monica and Long Beach.

Personally, I wouldn't give 4 days to San Fran, but maybe that's just me?

Due to the nature of the thread, people on here are likely to tell you just to go to Vegas for all 10 days :rotfl:

We did 2 nights in Los Angeles last year, so we had an evening and then a full day really. We saw quite a lot in that time as we had a car. We didn't see everything though, if you want to see loads I'd be tempted to say add another night, but on a 10 day trip I'm not sure you have time to. We also stayed one night at Long Beach at the end of that trip, really like that and would go back there.

I've only been to San Francisco for the day, and I'm not that keen to go back. Maybe will at some time. There's quite a lot to see, but depends if you want to do Alcatraz as I think that can take up half a day so we skipped that.

Vegas is just fantastic, and there's actually good sightseeing by car in the vicinity. Red Rock Canyon, Valley of Fire, Lake Mead, Boulder City and the Hoover Dam, Grand Canyon etc.

I'm currently trying to find out when Roos-N-More is open in September. Website has only got up to August, so I've sent an email. We've got a car on 7th & 8th so fingers crossed.

Has anyone else been? I'm sure I found out about it because it was mentioned on hear a year or two ago.

Interesting, of course maybe a separate thread might have been a good idea!

For lv i guess I'm just missing what everyone goes for - its my other half that wants to go, me, I've done the us from east to as far west as San Antonio - the other half has only ever done NYC.

I guess it comes down to if we don't pool party, we're not massive eaters and gambling, we might dabble a couple of bucks but nothing lie, what lv is known for - are we wasting time doing it. We're setting out and returning from la so I'm just trying to justify the days people say we need - the landscape and nature is our thing on this trip for sure...

As for Alcatraz, I'd like to see it from a distance and walk the golden gate, but not bothered about a Long Island visit taking up a large part of the day.

I'm totally with Georgiegirl on that one, but might just be me also. See what others think.

Santa Monica is nice, Long Beach too. We also drove to Griffith Observatory, and you can also park quite easily in some places. For example we parked right at one end of Walk of Fame and walked along it. Parked on a meter for $1 or $2, and stopped and had a slice of pizza and spend the rest of the hour walking along and looking. We stayed at Culver City in LA, it was right on the freeway leading to Santa Monica (15 mins away), so really handy and much cheaper than Hollywood. We were out in the car all day and when we got back we wandered across to the shopping mall that was right there. Our hotel (Doubletree) also had an outdoor pool with tables and chairs around, so we went down there with a glass of wine from the room the second night. We saw others sitting out there with takeaway pizza at night, was lovely considering it was near that busy road! You have to be driving to stay in that type of place though.

We're going to drive as much as we can, if we end up going san Fran to lv then we'll southwest it as its not a great drive as I understand.

Lv is the only place we'll stay near the be centre of everything - just need decent priced parking - we're both going to be drivers on the car if its not too expensive.

Must admit the more I read about lv the more I'm finding to do. Which quite annoying lol
