Interesting, thanks for the info - we might switch our arrival into lax to San Francisco as we're flying premium economy and just noticed the new a380 BA had delivered is on the lhr to sfo route from October - tempting :)

I think you may have to double check that. According to the BA website the A380 is doing the LAX flight from October, not SFO, that flight is still a 747.

I was reading about the new zip wire that is opening in Fremont Street soon, it's like a massive slot machine (slotzilla), and there's 2 different wires, the standard one and the super hero one that actually propels you out fast! Has anyone heard anything else about it, ie when it's due to open?

Have you read the vegascatter take on it

Lounges aren't open overnight at JFK

I have found one in T4, the Oasis, which is walk in and open 24 hours, for $45 per person for 4.5 hours, and from what I have gleaned, it is land side. With breakfast and drinks, and more importantly good seats and showers, it is looking like a good option.

Anyone been to LV for Thanksgiving? Does a lot of places shut? Or is it closer to a normal day there as well? Is there anything special you should do/ see?

    :)

sovilla... I don't have a credit card, and do have a co-op account...
I been to vegas twice, never used my co-op card once....
I had $$$ with me, and the main bulk on my FairFX pre-paid card...
I have booked hire cars (Always from the UK via a UK broker), with Dollar and Alamo...

Dollar didn't ask for any card, and Alamo asked for a card, so I gave them the FairFX card (they charged $1 Auth to it)....
I always pre-pay for fuel though, so no need in theory for a credit card, as nothing can charged (ok, unless I lose the keys or go off-roading! :D )

You may have a problem, I would suggest that you book your car now, from the UK from Carhire3000 or Netflights or any of the others mentioned on page 1. That way your car will be paid for, you will have the necessary insurances that you need without any aggressive upsell at the USA car counter and you won't waste precious holiday time getting it all sorted out.
But they will still ask you for a credit card at the depot to cover any damage/late return etc. I cant see anyway around it, you need a credit card, unless they accept a cash hold of say $500.
I don't think they accept UK debit cards
The common law of business balance prohibits paying a little and getting a lot. If you deal with the lowest bidder, it is well to add something for the risk you run, and if you do that you will have enough to pay for something better.

    Hi all,

Now all our flights are booked (not booked paris hotel yet) we are busy planning what we want to do :)

We have to go GC for the day but was thinking of either driving there and renting a mustang (drop top) the man dream haha or getting a helicoptor package with the picnic in the Canyon, as this is one of both of your dream!

Can anyone suggest a package to suit or a decent company to do it with?

This one seems a good shout?

Am i missing anything or is that cheaper than most, ie how much is this extra horse back ride and food etc? is that how they make there money?

    I booked a car with dollar.co.uk
I also signed up for the Dollar Express, I entered a pre-paid card number into my DE account, and had my booking show on the DE website (although only ever showed the ref, nothing more)..
I chose the premium deal (ie: Covers tank of fuel and add drivers).
Collected 3 cars, in Vegas & Orlando, I showed my booking ref, my drivers license and my DE Card.... that's all...

Recent trip was with Alamo (again, booked gold package to include fuel). Alamo confirmed they would take a debit card or cash.
However, when I got to the gate to drive out, the !!!!!!! in the cabin said he wanted a credit card, so I gave my FairFX pre-paid card, he did an AUTH on it for $1 , and off we went.....

I havent had a credit card since 2005, and have been to the states many times with quite a few hires.... Only issue I had without a credit card was with Budget rentals, they 100% want a credit card!

Cash deposit (with Alamo) said it could be $200 - $500, depending on car and how long...

I'm now 26 so that shouldn't be an issue with the car rental, I'm worried about the rules (drove in france) and worried about the costs/roads on the way to the Canyon?
Is it really that easy just to drive, is there anywhere we can 100% be guaranteed a mustang drop top?
