I know I've said it before, but on 7+ day trips, we tend to drift off-strip at weekends and head out of town (Death Valley, Grand Canyon etc) - prices can be pretty similar to on-strip most of the time, but at the above venues the prices are static 7 days a week so you get away from the busyness, and experience something new / different :)

If you like it nice and hot, and sitting by the pool, can't beat a bit of Furnace Creek Ranch in Death Valley -- hot spring fed pool, some interesting things to go to in the Valley and guaranteed temperatures ;)

I am looking to go back for a week in June 2014, does anyone know when flights will go on sale? I'm hoping we can get a good deal on flights! Does £550ish for indirect sound reasonable? Or maybe £650 for direct?

Some carriers will already have their fares available (I've noticed a few go beyond the typical 11months(ish) rule that most carriers run to.)

The carriers that do follow the rule are just coming out now. Ie. flights with Virgin / Delta are currently out into the first week or two of June 2014. As usual, looking at the list of carrier results returned from Kayak (https://www.kayak.com) will hopefully show up the usual suspects (BA, AA, Delta, US Airways, KLM etc) for the dates you have in mind, if not, its just a case of checking back

    Where are you flying from?

I'd say your price expectations are reasonable (its what I'd expect to pay from MAN), though hopefully you'll be getting something slightly cheaper because you're getting in there early doors - I'd also expect it to be cheaper if you're going from LHR rather than from MAN :)

Death Valley makes a wonderful day trip (or longer). I found it more enjoyable than the Grand Canyon. Lots to see, nice walks, amazing scenery - just not in the middle of summer!

If it helps, we have been 3 times now :) pretty certain it will be on my old trip reports. Let me know if u have any questions :)

We love it but we have run out of (sensible) things to do in DV in the summertime now :D

Tho you can always squeeze in a 6am "last 9 holes" on the adjoining "lowest golf course in the world" that time of year. Bargain summer bundle prices usually mean you get clubs, buggy and bottles of water included. :) and we saw coyotes and all sorts of wildlife as we went around. One went right by us once without blinking!

I booked my flights on Monday for next year, going May 19th - June 2nd.....
Booked with Netflights (got cashback, although credit card charges of £23 cover the cashback!)..
With Delta which is on the Virgin plane, cost £595.16 each :)
To me, it seemed a super good price for direct.

We only have one night there in between Yosemite and Vegas, looking forward to it though.

Also just had an email from restaurant.com saying Envy no longer participating, which is a shame so need to exchange.
