Good report!!! :):):) and a good few truths at the bottom!

I've been twice (2011 and last month).
I do find it funny when people say hotels are cheap, although no idea what they are comparing the prices too!
Thurs, Fri and Sat nights are never cheap, and if a big convention going on in that hotel/next door hotel, then prices go crazy!!
Totally agree about the drinks service, especially in MGM resort hotels......
I found Bills, Casino Royale and California as the only places to give quick service on drinks making me spend more and stay longer! :)
Anything is far from cheap out there, so I work on the basis of hoping to win, using vouchers and being cheeky as f**k to get my freebies!!! :D:D:D:D
Still, I cant bloody wait till May next year when we go for 2 weeks!!!!! :D:D:D (2 weeks using 2 or 3 hotels = average £900, and that's like Lux, Flamingo & NYNY) !

Regarding free drinks, On our last visit we had quick and plentiful service at Orleans (as always) Caesers, Harrahs ,Flamingo, Golden Nugget,Mermaid and El Cortez. In fact everywhere we gambled, so I guess its where you go rather than Vegas in general

I think it is cheap or at least it can be, or of course it can be expensive.

I have been going for nearly 15 years and while it isnt as cheap as it used to be,( although having said that hotel rooms are probably cheaper in real terms).

    EDIT
I missed the bit where you say its funny what people say about hotel prices.

leaving out fri and sat for a mo (although I have got a couple of free nights on a fri and sat coming up in Oct) Sun thru Thur can be had for about $20 plus the resort fee centre strip, alright I know its the quad!

Orleans is reg avaialble for around $35 a night with only a $5 resort fee (which I have never been charged).

What other major city/holiday destination can you get the same standard for less. Try any of the other major US cities and see the difference.

Even on a fri and sat when yes they are higher, you can still get lucky, I think you stayed at GN for a good price over the weekend as did I.

Buffets are still very good value Orleans breakfast inc all drinks and made to order omlettes etc etc is ony $7 ish and there are many cheaper than that.

i could list many more examples where things are cheaper even without using vouchers etc.

i was super lucky at the GN, a sell out wkend, host to the punk rock thing and was memorial wkend, i had Sat & sun night for $166 (about 58% off!!)
    :D:D
prices for anything over there dont bother me, get what you pay for, etc :)

Next years idea which i might go for is:
    4 Nights @ Rio
    5 Nights @ Flamingo
5 Nights @ Mirage or MGM
All but MGM grand do BRG and knock off 10%
Did fancy NYNY, but the pool looks not as good or big (and Vegas in the day for us is all about the pools!)

I think that's the beauty of Vegas -It can be as cheap or as expensive as you choose.

OK the clubs are a rip off and some of the club pool events -but if the market will take it-they get away with charging what they do.....otherwise pretty much everything else is good value I find. Maybe you need to research more stuie ?

Suppose it depends where else you've holidayed before though.

agree and agree with photome - What other major city/holiday destination can you get the same standard for less.

Relatively speaking, Vegas is cheap for what you can get...and yes weekends can be expensive but over a period of 5, 7, 10, 14 nights it averages out to quite reasaonbel for what you get.

I do love the ordering drinks at the slots thing at Venetian (or is it Palazzo?)...I don't like to wait long, I flit about from slot to slot too much...that was perfect for me.
Does remembering a time that a certain degree of personal responsibility was more or less standard means that I am officially old?

I know I've said it before, but on 7+ day trips, we tend to drift off-strip at weekends and head out of town (Death Valley, Grand Canyon etc) - prices can be pretty similar to on-strip most of the time, but at the above venues the prices are static 7 days a week so you get away from the busyness, and experience something new / different :)

If you like it nice and hot, and sitting by the pool, can't beat a bit of Furnace Creek Ranch in Death Valley -- hot spring fed pool, some interesting things to go to in the Valley and guaranteed temperatures ;)
