And so the planning continues...... J was saying he'd rather fly direct but on principle there is no way I'm paying £800 plus just for the flight to Vegas so I asked him if he fancied a day trip to Dublin before we go to Vegas :)

So the latest plan is ...drive to Gatwick - leave luggage for Vegas at left luggage and take a one way fare to Dublin -fly back about 9pm -check into Yotel and next morning wander across to the check in and fly direct. Nice saving on it to the point that total cost including a Ryanair cheapie , Yotel , Gatwick M&G parking and 7 nights in Vegas (Orleans 5 nights and Flamingo in a Go room for the last 2 ) nights comes out at £815 a head -so with cashback should come out under £800 a head with a couple of decent pints of Guinness thrown in :D

DUB LAS rtn btw was cheaper from a US site than a UK one.

Now to fine tune and see if I can get it any lower ;)
Have a look at flying from AMS, save on APD and fuel surcharge. Route would be booked as AMS/LHR/LAS/LHR/LCY/AMS
Drive to LHR you can have your bags loaded for the LHR/LAS sector. Fly BA £60 one way to AMS AT 7am. Start the booked itinerary. On the way back the reason for changing from LHR to London City is that your bags will come off at Heathrow and you can then go home. Missing the last leg will not be a problem because your car broke down and you missed your flight.
I priced this up for next year in Club and saved £3000 on flying direct from Heathrow
The common law of business balance prohibits paying a little and getting a lot. If you deal with the lowest bidder, it is well to add something for the risk you run, and if you do that you will have enough to pay for something better.

Even allowing for the saving on an overnight the Dublin option works out cheaper in Y in August but it's an interesting variation -and very good for Avios !

The flights for Oct 14 won't be out till about 11 months before, so quite a wait yet. Book the flights first before the hotel, there will be lots of offers usually the best one IMO are 6-8 weeks before you plan on going.

    Hi All,
Going to Vegas in August for the first time, Cant wait. :j
    Does anyone know the Venetian?
I ask because when we booked the Holiday through Virgin they said we had an upgrade from a Bella suite to a Luxury suite.
Very nice we thought, except when we looked at the Venetian website the Luxury doesn't seem to be an upgrade in fact it is smaller than the Bella suite. Anyone have any experience of which is better?

Also, We plan on going to the Grand Canyon by Helicopter and seeing either Cirque's Love or O. would it be cheaper to pre-book in the UK or wait to see if there are any offers whilst we are there?

    Thanks

    Mike

    Thanks Stoneman

So a package for flight and hotel with say, Expedia, is not the cheapest way to do the Vegas trip??

check the first page for links to the sites that consolidate deals for show tickets (smartervegas, travelzoo, etc) and check the offers available for your dates - if none keep checking. O is one of those that is less often discounted - sometimes 20% - but you can regularly get deals on Love - and every summer they seem to run a deal for $50-$55 tickets (plus fees)...it is normally the last row - we saw the show in March (have seen it a few times before) and thought the back row was just fine...there are discounts on other pricing levels as well.
Does remembering a time that a certain degree of personal responsibility was more or less standard means that I am officially old?

A Bella suite at the Venetian is normally a room with 2 queen beds rather than one king bed and it normally more expensive. Not sure what they class as "luxury".

I wouldn't worry too much about it as all the rooms at the Venetian are classed as suites, just because they have a living area on a split level, and are really nice.

Ditto what ferf says re shows. Summer of Cirque offers have just been released. However they sometimes don't release the cheap tickets for a particular month until the first few days of that month.

I have seen both and would go for Love over O although others may not agree.

Seems a good deal for 2 (munchies & drinks at Mirage buffet)....
Am half tempted to get it, but with Bellagio & monte carlo buffet on our agenda, a 3rd buffet might see me stretch my clothes!! :D:D:D:D
