Hi all,
Eventually booked my trip for me and my partner, 11th sept - 17th sept with virgin, staying at harrahs in a Deluxe Executive Suite. £1780 in total, i was fairly please with that, should get 5% with quidco off that also.
A few questions however....
1) On lastminute.com it states harrahs has no resort fees , yet it says they will take a mandatory £72 at check in? is that not a resort fee?
2) It also says a valid credit card will be required, i do not have one, credit rating not great but OH could get one if really needed?
3) How soon or late to fill out the ESTA (Visa Waiver) ? im renewing my passport next month is it worth waiting until my new one has arrived? when i went a few years ago there was no charge and they didnt seem to check that i had even done it.
4) Lastly, Does this seem like a reasonable deal, i was fairly satisfied with it, but wouldnt mind some feedback about Harrahs, good or bad.
Thanks for taking the time to read all this, any help would be great, cant wait to go now
Hi magee737,
We have stayed at Harrahs for our last 5 trips, always get 5 nights comped & good rates for our other nights, this year we arrive May 5th for 9 days total cost $90 & no resort fee!!(At least not this year.)
Usually stay in Carnivale Tower, we always request a high floor (anything above 12th is usually ok) the normal rooms are big enough but nothing outstanding. The rooms are serviced with towels /toiletries restocked daily.
The normal rooms in the Mardi Gras tower are a little smaller and are close to the Carnivale Court, which can be noisy late in the evenings.
But not as special as your exec deluxe suite!!
Harrahs is nothing special compared to other Vegas hotels, but it's great as a base at the centre of the Strip and it's rates are good, so it suits us.
When US hotels refer to credit cards it just means you can use a credit card if you have one or your Bank card (visa debit / maestro or whatever).
Have a great 1st Vegas trip & if you're anything like the rest of us you will be back!!!0 -

Agree but also have to be careful as they will put a hold against the card that's used so those funds would be locked up for the duration of the stay.
If this is still current it would be $100/night hold on a card...so if someone doesn't have enough additional available (over and above what they would want for spending) then it could be an issue.

So if there's any concern would be worth looking into the alternate cash deposit option.Does remembering a time that a certain degree of personal responsibility was more or less standard means that I am officially old?0 -
I had a thought about the decision for Caesars/Harrahs to move to a resort fee and wonder if it had anything to do with MGM properties instituting free wifi access in many parts of their properties...up until that, customers at CET properties might go ahead and pay for internet access...but maybe with MGM making it easy to get free access from properties near to CET properties someone figured they would lose that additional revenue? Or maybe I am making connections where none exist.
I just checked the weather for next week and it appears I have again put myself in a repacking situation...average highs are 20 and I've pre-packed accordingly, forecast is currently 28 the day we arrive...which given the UK weather forecast I just watched will be quite the contrast!Does remembering a time that a certain degree of personal responsibility was more or less standard means that I am officially old?0 -
It's gloomy and rainy in Vegas today. (Or so I have been let to believe)
I hope it's better when you get there.0 -

But seriously, sounds like you've got a picky group, so if you all went out in the UK, what kind of restaurant would be best for you all? Can then make some suggestions for Vegas
Ooh I like the sound of the Cheesecake Factory, I will Google it. Otherwise if we're all together we'd most likely go out for a carvery, do they do Sunday dinner in Vegas? :rotfl:
Can you give us an idea what you mean by this as it may help to give you ideas that are more specific? Knowing what sort of budget might help too...and if there's anything that needs to be specifically avoided other than what's been mentioned.
OK, things to be avoided as not liked by someone - meat apart from chicken, pork and beef, not keen on fish, MIL doesn't like Indian, most of us don't like meat and fruit dishes, I could manage steak if it was well done but it wouldn't be top of my list.
The most promising place menu-wise at the moment is the Steakhouse at Planet Hollywood as their menu doesn't have foie gras on it and seems a bit more varied than most of the steakhouses I've looked at (I was thinking over here you'd always get some chicken at least on a steakhouse menu but that doesn't necessarily seem to be the case over there). All the other places I've looked at have had foie gras on them and I just don't want to support any place that sells it. Why on earth is it so popular?!
ETA: Just looked up Cheesecake Factory and it looks great! I didn't realise it was a proper restaurant to be honest. Would a bride in a wedding dress look out of place there?0 -

we have seen brides at buffets so I do not think brides look out of place anywhere in Vegas.Every steakhouse we have been to has had chicken on the menu, I think.

We have been on a Deuce bus with a whole very tipsy bridal party a few years ago! They were married in Binions on Fremont Street & were all heading to The Mirage & Bellagio to take some wedding pics.
You always seem to see a bride + entourage somewhere in Vegas.0 -
I did wonder why you were avoiding anywhere that serves Foie Gras, rather than just avoiding eating it. I'm vegetarian, so wasn't even that sure what it was. Searched using google  Awful.0

Sunday carvery...isnt that rather english:eek: having said that all buffets have what you are looking for.
As has been said Brides dont look out of place anywhere in Vegas, I have seen them everywhere.
You do sound like a particularly hard to please group, but most restaurants of which there are hundreds, maybe thousands would still cater for you I would think.
there are lots of italians, one that comes to mond is Casa di amore with a free limo service
Cheesecake factory is good, the portion sizes are enormous although not quite as large as hash house0
