No Buying Unnecessary Toiletries in January 2013

Hi everyone and welcome newbies. In order to use up some of the ordinary but perfectly good stuff, when it comes to toiletries (rather than skincare) I have been tending to have a basic one and a more luxury item on the go and alternate them, it means I will not just TA the ordinary stuff, but get to use some of the special goodies too. It means the UU's of full sizes are slow, but I don't just waste things (and therefore money). For instance, I have never really been a sunbather, so the skin on most of my body is soft and not over dry, but my arms, feet and legs which have been more exposed are thirstier, so the rich luxury creams are used here and the body gets the basic treatment. Shampoo hoard is just down to a couple (large sizes) of HG's, I have used all the others for the first shampoo and the HG's for the second one. Will not suit everyone but might help some.
I do that too! Have L'Occitaine cherry blossom shower gel and impulse shower gel on go, Wilko moisturiser and BS sweet pea duo on the go atm.
UU vaseline cocoa butter tin, WBA but loads of lip balms IN at Christmas so don't need to.
INs from a swap:) Lush Dreamwash shower soap, Champneys hand and nail cream and a lovely purple MaxFactor nail varnish.Debt free and busy treating myself:)
No more toiletries/make up until I've used what I've got stashed since Jan 2011, graduated October 2012. Restocked Dec 13..damn those sales0 -
a few more UU
100 Another mouthwash (im sure my DH must drink this when he comes home at the weekend) WBA but at least one more in the stash.
101 Superdrug strawberry/raspberry shower gel this was originally bought for my daughter but she went off it about half way down so I finished it off. WNBA I dislike strawberry fragrances. No more buying toiletries0 -
I have loads of Avon potions for feet, hands, neck... you name it! I'm kind of dreading using them because it won't feel like a 'treat' but I have so much that I must use them. I'm glad a raffle is coming up soon that I'm going to as I have lots of Baylis and Harding to give away.
How quickly does Soap and Glory go off? I got the big bag in Boots and I'm now worried that everything will go off super quick. They are going to be used up next after the Gok Wan stuff.0 -
UU
Weleda Birch Cellulite Oil, 10ml - WNBA, smells really nice but not sure it really does anything. Although, that could be because i only used it for a wee while!

I would use it sooner rather than later. I got a gift in the sale last January and some of it went off even though it was stored in a cool, dry place.0 -
I get milia if I use too much of this cleanser. I find half a pump is enough and actually preferred it when I was using the small tube I had of this. Have you used the body oil? I've managed to finish one bottle of this and really enjoyed using it.
I just started using the oil last night, I had forgotten that I even had it until I read your post about finishing yours, so thanks for the reminder :T. I agree, it is lovely!
Have a TA - Neutrogena multi-repair cream, this has gone all watery which was to be expected I suppose since I first opened it years ago, it also had a BBE date of 2011
re: the soap and glory, I have loads of this stuff (and I get soooo bored using it ) but the only thing I've ever noticed 'go off' is the hand cream, it really doesn't seem to last well, everything else seems to go on forever
happy pampering, xo0 -
When I cleared out my mum's house after she died last year one of the depressing things was seeing all the cheap products in the bathroom and all the luxury products in her cupboard. She'd been saving them for when she retired and would have more time to pamper herself and socialise. Since seeing that I have changed the way I look at these things as I used to do the same.
Ah that's really sadI've saved lots of products in the past and would never have actually used them I don't think if it wasn't for the challenge, Chanel body lotions and the like that were for 'best', now I just use everything and try to target what's oldest. If I know I'm in for a tough day in work I'll put my very favourite perfume on and it gives me a boost. Same with makeup, I don't keep anything for best now. I've a Dior makeup remover of all things that I've been keeping indefinitely, started using it up as its one of the older items and its rubbish, doesn't take mascara off and smells really over fragranced! So sometimes our 'best products' aren't all they cracked up to be and I guess there could be HG lying in wait in the cheaper items.

This is such great advice! Think I'll start doing this on some of the body lotions I'm not really looking forward to using, will help me persist!BeNiceToMySelf wrote: »I have loads of Avon potions for feet, hands, neck... you name it! The main issue with S&G, from my own experience and posts on here, seems to be with Hand Food going off, separating and smelling foul - if you've any of that I'd check it out sooner rather than later. Other than that I've never had any problems and had stuff for years rather than months kept in the bathroom which is generally fairly cool HTH0 -
Oops forgot! I've a couple of UU when I thought this month was pretty much finished - Skin Therapy face wipes, from Wilko's 2 for £1, WBA in theory although I don't much use wipes now I'm a 'proper cleansing' girl (my skin loves me for it) but they are handy to have in. I would get the unfragranced ones next time though as these are a little overpowering and ever so slightly irritating at times (my skin is very particular). Have another three packs in the stash first of different makes to work through. Bargain price and they don't feel at all cheap.
Second one is a body butter (fanfare!) My favourite kind of UU as I still have so many and they seem such slow progress! I actually really like this one - S & G Butter Up - WBA - in a blue tube as out of the Spa range so not as sickly sweet as some of the pink items. This is a dry skin formula and my skin drinks it in, particularly on my shins where the skin is always dry unless I religiously moisturise (which I'm not terribly great at...). I love that its not at all sticky, which is my pet hate for a lot of body lotiohs and butters - I've also used this as foot and hand cream and its fab. Actually quite glad I've another tube in the stash. A pot would have been a better design as had to cut open when loads left but that was no hassle as easily done.
Off to Manchester to see Paloma Faith later, very excited! :j0 -
morning
thanks for the help with my S & G concerns, will get my handcream going ASAP! Think I'll take maddiemay's tip about using luxury and basic items at the same time to get rid of my avon stuff.
hope you have fun emsjune0
